I am 2+ years post sleeve. How much is too much Water in a day? I find that if I’m not drinking ~3L/day or more, I get headaches and feel terrible. To do this and also not be drinking during/around meals, I am constantly drinking through out the day - and also constantly peeing. Sorry if TMI. Lately my PCP doctor made me feel like that is unusually high. The national academies recommendation is 3.7L for adult men per day.

Just wondering if there is an upper limit for Bariatric patients. I hear 64oz thrown around here but that seems low to me as a long term goal, perhaps something to aim for closer to surgery day - I would be dehydrated on that little at this point....especially if I’m regularly exercising.

How much water do you drink per day?

There’s no evidence to say there’s a correct amount for any given person. As long as your feeling good that’s what really matters.

Healthy kidneys can process around 1l of urine per hour so unless you’re drinking massive amounts in one go you’re unlikely to be drinking too much!

64oz is 8 glasses a day which is what the minimum recommended for adults. For weight loss, half your body weight is recommended. That being said it is possible to drink too much water. Water poisoning is a real thing and it can kill you. But you need to consume massive amounts to even get to that point.

3/L doesn’t seem excessive to me though.

161 oz of Fluid, might as well take my meals to the bathroom because that is where you will find me. Pfooey I already have urge/overflo incontinence, I sure won't have time to wash dishes etc.The best benefit? I won't have time to cook big meals for my family. Just hand them the ready sliced Hillshire Farms meat,a chunk,of cheese and tell them I'll see them later when I drain out![emoji19]

Massive amounts in a very short period of time and it's not an easy thing to do
I read about this when I began to worry I was drinking too much water

I don’t think I’m at risk of diluting my electrolytes like that...seems like it’s way more common in long distance running and other endurance athletics. I was definitely mindful of it when I ran a marathon last spring.

The national academy of science came up with a recommendation of 3.7 and 2.7 liters of Fluid daily for men and women - (food and Water combined). But that’s if a person is not very active. The recommendation goes up if there’s lots of exercise.

I just wonder if that need changes at all for bariatric patients. Sort of like how calorie needs change for us post surgery.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
