Did you tell the world about your WLS?

I am pre-op and have been pretty open with co-workers so far. Not sure how much family I will tell. I have 3 sisters-in-law that are blonde skinny/hangry/judgey, growing up with them is why my husband likes this curvy brunette! I don't need to hear their under educated opinions about anything.

I agree that lying is too much effort and that the more open we are, the more weight loss surgery will lose its stigma. At the same time, we all need to individually decide how much judgement we want to subject ourselves to (especially when you know its coming).

I have been doing some research/reading on this topic (here and on other forums/sites) & I have found that a lot of bariatric patients find it easier to tell outside people (friends, coworkers, strangers) rather than family.

I dislike it so much that family can be the one to tear you down. 😞

That is the truth, or they can be like my oldest RD ( short for Rotten Daughter) she cares so little when I tried to talk to her about it, she redirected the conversation to herself and her troubles. I believe if I had told her I was going to squat down and expose my lady parts to a buzz saw I would have gained the same reaction. She flat out don't care! And since she,was my first- born it hurts deep inside[emoji37]

I didn't really tell many people. I told my parents and my in-laws. I was guilted into telling them by my husband. I felt forced to tell my SIL and BIL at Easter and boy did I feel ashamed when I did. I felt sick about it during and afterwards. My manager at work also knows as he has been incredible with allowing me time off for all the appointments. I don't want to deal with others judging me. Maybe at some point I will feel more comfortable about it. Heck, I have lost 45 lbs since Nov and not a single person has said, hey, have you lost weight? Not a single person. My clothes are baggy too. All in all, I am happy with my progress and I feel that is the only person who's opinion that really matters.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
