Hey All,

I’m 15 days post-op, just moved to soft foods today and super excited. I have lost 20 lbs so far, I’m energized and feel fabulous. My only problem so far is every time I eat something other then yogurt or pudding, I have a lot of noise. Noise coming from my stomach and/or throat? It’s so embarrassing and I swear people can hear it but I just may be paranoid. Anyone else experiencing these noises? Please tell me it’s normal?

Thanks in advance!

I gurgle, too. My husband teases me about it. I don't think anyone else notices:)

I am 3 weeks post-sleeve and my stomach gurgles very loudly as well. My hubby told me he could hear it across the room. A little tummy noises are worth it! No one at work has mentioned anything so it must not be too loud. LOL

Me, too! But other people have mentioned it. Pretty embarrassing, but if that's the worst side effect I get, I can't complain too loudly :-)

I’m wondering if it ever stops... I’m so embarrassed of it! Or what it is exactly. Is it acid reflux? Or eating too fast? Or the wrong things....

I'm a month in and have it happen as well. Found this and it explains it pretty well https://www.endobariatric.com/weblog/2016/02/08/gurgling-sleeve-sounds/

I gurgled a LOT for the first few weeks, but it has slowed down considerably now (I'm 7 weeks out from RNY). Still happens, especially if I take too big a drink, but not nearly as much as it was. When it was at its worst, sometimes I would open my mouth to talk and would accidentally sing a little tune from the air bubbles.

I gurgle constantly after meals. The worst is when someone schedules a 1pm meeting and I have to sit in the conference room, after lunch, with my colleagues, and gurgle my way through a meeting. Awful!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
