Thatsexy_67 32 Posted April 5, 2018 Hello everyone!!! I am in the process of getting approved for VSG, I am on my 4th visit with my primary physician. I have had my, consultation, psych evaluation, nicotine test and blood work. I was wondering if it is okay to try a liver shrinking diet plan even before I have a surgery date? It doesn't matter if I am not approved for surgery the first time with my insurance I will continue to submit the request. I have made up my mind that this is what I need and want for me, I know it will be hard and I want to start preparing myself physically and mentally before I even get a surgery date. I am 5'7" and 293 lbs. I am asking because I don't want to do any harm to myself beforehand. Any response is welcomed and appreciated.
aNYCdb 310 Posted April 5, 2018 Nothing wrong with shrinking your liver ahead of time. It's doubtful that you would need another ultrasound on the liver before surgery so you are unlikely to lose the co-morbitity (if you need it for insurance). In addition to doing the high Protein low carb diet to shrink your liver through ketosis, you can also try losing 20 pounds using a traditional diet (for some reason the liver is the first thing to shed fat when you lose weight).
