Sick of cold and sweet

Recommended Posts

I started my pre-op diet on Monday and am already dreading drinking more cold, sweet Protein Shakes. I know this is just the beginning though, so I’m looking for some good Protein mixers that are more on the savory side. Something warm would be a bonus too! I’ve heard using broth with unflavored protein works well. Just wondering if there are any other suggestions out there. Thanks in advance!

I pour the pre-mixed shakes into my coffee. That way I can get something reasonably hot and the coffee really helps cut the gross sweet taste.

Protein mugcakes is my go to protein recipe (Google it there's tons of them)

My personal favorite is 1 scoop of Protein Powder (syntrax matrix) 1 tablespoon coconut flour, 1 teaspoon of baking powder and a little skim milk to get it all mixed (until it's dissolved and a thick mix)

Microwave 30-60 seconds based on preference.

Now your protein is hot and cakey. Plus it's delicious, and it's not sweet at all

I do this every morning! I do 1/2 caramel Premier Protein, 1 cup of coffee (decaf)and it tastes great! I do this twice a day and it makes me happy :)

GENEPRO sold in the bariatric store, can be added to tea, broth, Soup. It mixes in nicely.

I’ve never tried that brand before, so I’ll have to try it out. Thank you for the suggestion!

That does sound good! I love coffee, so I’m betting I’ll love that too.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
