hotmessmom 12 Posted April 5, 2018 Just curious I never even considered I could have a hiatal hernia but symptomatically it’s possible. Nothing super troublesome but I’m having my egd Monday so I’m guessing he will be able to see then. I noticed a lot have mentioned having it though and just curious if you noticed you had it before your appointments. Thanks in advance
Creekimp13 5,840 Posted April 5, 2018 They might and might not detect it on the endoscopy. Mine wasn't detected and it was huge. Probably the result of bad falls off horses..or crappy genetics...or a combination. Don't worry...it's not complicated to repair and most bariatric surgeons have a ton of experience fixing them if you do happen to have one. Piece of cake. No worries. 1 dreamangel1974 reacted to this
dreamangel1974 38 Posted April 5, 2018 My surgeon found mine during my EGD, and will repair it during my VSG. He said it’s a simple fix and only adds a few minutes to the VSG procedure. I think they are fairly common for those of us who are obese. I have had heart burn off and on, but had no idea I had one.
Sleeve1stFitNext 924 Posted April 5, 2018 I was diagnosed with a Hiatal Hernia after my endoscope. However, once I had my surgery, they were able to see that I actually did not have one.
SleeveinIL 386 Posted April 8, 2018 The saw a small hiatal hernia when I did the preop testing. Surgeon said I had a very large one once he went in and saw it during surgery. He fixed it right up and honestly I took pain meds the night I came home but haven’t taken anything afterwards, not even Tylenol. Surgeon said it is extremely common. 1 Creekimp13 reacted to this
