NewJerseyMom 3 Posted April 4, 2018 Hello, I had my gastric sleeve surgery done on February 1 of this year. I've been having problems getting enough Protein, liquid, and food in from the second week on. I've had some issues with all kinds of Protein Shakes, where I get extremely nauseas while drinking them or severe gastric distress. So, for the last six weeks I've been drinking clear protein, Soup, and Apple sauce. As of a week ago, I developed an allergy to the protein that I was drinking and it makes me throw up now. I spoke with my surgeon and he told me that I do need to try more things, especially solid foods. I've been slowly trying since then. Like I can eat a tiny meatball that I've cooked or a very small piece of chicken, but it takes me almost an hour. Has anyone else experienced anything like this? Any advice is welcome! aNYCdb 310 Posted April 4, 2018 Everyone recovers differently and has different tolerances for things, but part of the recovery is also about advancing. Sometimes that advancement isn't comfortable. That said as you advance, the stuff from previous phases also becomes more tolerable. Nauseousness and gastric distress sound like signs that you are drinking those shakes too fast. I'm not sure what Protein you are having an intolerance with, but if it is whey you could try switching to a whey protein isolate (which has most of the lactose removed). You could also try egg, soy, or pea Proteins but be aware they don't have the same bioavailability as whey. 1 NewJerseyMom reacted to this
