Protein & Vitamin Intake

Recommended Posts

I had the gastric sleeve surgerg on 3/13/18. Im hitting 4 weeks post op and having a difficult time intaking 60g of Protein. I started drinking Protein Shakes but I can not find one that I like. Any suggestions?

Also, I was told to take chewable Multivitamins. I have tried so many and end up throwing up because of the taste. Which ones are you guys taking?

I take 2 Flintstones multivitamins (well, the generic) every morning. As for Protein, I like the Premier Protein ready-to-drink shakes or the Syntrax Nectar powders. I also get the Protein2O protein Water, which is 15g of protein in 17 oz of water.

Have you tried Premier Protein shakes? Those are the only ones I like. I take the Vitamin gummies, Natures Bounty.

No I haven't tried the Premier Protein yet. I was just searching about it. Seems like a lot of people like it. I’ll try it out! Thanks!

I will also try the gummies. I just ordered the Premier Protein. Hopefully it helps. I wasn't expecting this to be this difficult, plus the weakness is getting to me. Thank you for the suggestion!

I would stay away from gummies. Your pouch doesn't have enough stomach acid to break down the gummies. The chalky ones are the only way to go, until you can swallow pills. I recently switched to a bariatric Vitamin I can swallow.

Premier Protein chocolate was my favorite Protein Drink, until I became intolerant of whey. Now Muscle Milk Pro Chocolate is my go to.

I struggle with Vitamins making me nauseous as well. The only chewable I was mostly ok with is the Centrum Chewable Adult. Now that I can take pills I've switched to Whole Foods prenatal, which I am loving, it causes no nausea!

How does the protein20 taste? And where did you get it

I really like the flavors I've had, but they do have a strong aftertaste that might turn some people off. I have found individual bottles at Hy-Vee, and you can buy a case of 12 (either all one flavor or a variety pack with three flavors - tropical coconut, grape, and mixed berry) at walmart.com (but not in-store). https://www.walmart.com/ip/Protein2o-Protein-Infused-Water-Variety-Pack-16-9-Fl-Oz-12-Count/54393878

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
