Is Diarrhea something to be scared of I’m 11 days Gastric sleeve postop?

Recommended Posts

If it lasts more than a day combined with vomiting go to the er you can easily become dehydrated so keep an eye on it

Keep an eye on it! Just like she said you can become very dehydrated and that happened to me two months post op of my sleeve surgery. I ended up getting the flu and I couldn’t keep anything down or in my body and I had a near death experience with dehydration. Please be careful and watch for symptoms. You can always call your surgeons office and see what they recommend before you go to the er. But if you do go to the er let them know you are a Bariatric patient and explain what’s wrong.

Can anyone give me any suggestions should I be panicked?

If it's just diarrhea its nothing to be worried about especially if you are still on a liquid diet (and no longer taking constipating pain meds). If you aren't eating solids there are no real solids to hold things together so of course you are going to get diarrhea. When you get to the food stage you are going look back at this as your "happy" BM time.

As long as you're drinking enough...you're fine. If it persists, ask your doctor.

Drink Water. And then drink some more.

Have you added anything high in sugars? Too much sugar too soon can cause some stomach issues, including dumping syndrome. Make sure you're sticking to your surgeons instructions and keeping hydrated.

I've been having some mild stomach issues myself, but just keeping myself going through the motions and avoiding anything that might cause any further issues.

You're introducing food to your new stomach, it has to learn to process it. Certain foods may now cause the D. But keep your fluids up. Certainly if it's painful or bloody, you need evaluation. Watch for triggers.
