New- how to choose what surgery - please help

Recommended Posts

New- not sure what surgery is best for me. I need some advice please. I am 39 5’7” and 263lbs, I have diabetes, high cholesterol, HypoThyroid and kidney stones. My dr specializes is bypass but can also do the sleeve. He suggested the bypass. For the longer weight loss. But I am scared to have bypass cause I am a snacker and I don’t want to loose all my nutrients with bypass. I also have a Calcium deficiency and take meds for that. Plus the dumping syndrome is making me worry and think I will be in bathroom a lot with bypass.

Also I look good when I was 170 to 180. If I have bypass or sleeve will I go smaller than that? I look sick at 150?

Both surgeries require a Vitamin regimen for life.

Only 30-50 percent of people are estimated to develop dumping syndrome after bypass.

Both surgeries require adherence to a diet that normally focuses on meals high in Protein and discourages frequent grazing and snacking.

We can’t predict your weight loss or your compliance with a post operative program.

Bypass is known to basically “cure” type 2 diabetes that is caused by obesity, likely a main factor your surgeon is recommending this for you. You ultimately need to make this decision for yourself on what is right for your body but certainly his input should be greatly factored in if the reasons seem valid. You should do some independent research on both surgeries it seems like before you decide.

Good luck.

Thank you. I have been doing research, but kind of wanted to hear about others and there surgery before I choose myself. Thanks again. I really appreciate you responding.
