I’m just wondering if I should get the sleeve? If I have to eat well after, why can’t I just eat well now? I have diabetes, hbp, high cholesterol, fatty liver, etc. 43 yo, 5’3, cw- 207. I just wanna be healthier but scared I will not have the will-power... as I do not now.

Only you can decide if surgery is right for you or not. It took me a solid 3 weeks of reading about the surgery and considering whether or not I could make the sacrifices and take the risks involved.

One thing you should consider if that the surgery not only limits your food intake but that it is a metabolism reset. Thats not something you can get from diet and exercise alone, your body will always try to get back up to the higher weight.

I suggest you continue to read peoples experiences on this and other forums, go to Dr Matthew Weiner YouTube channel, he has several helpful videos. Find a seminar from a weight loss surgery program and talk to a surgeon and some local experts - they can help you decide if you’re a good candidate or not and which surgery is best for you.

You should also consider RNY, if you look into it you’ll find they recommend it for diabetics as it essentially “cures” diabetes.

The sleeve is just another tool to help you lose weight and your success will largely be determined by what you put into it. That said it all comes down to what and why you eat now. If you are like me the sleeve has been incredibly good for me so far, because it has helped with what has always been my undoing... hunger.

I think this is why they usually enforce a waiting period, classes on nutrition, stress management, exercise and psych evaluation. They want to prepare you for your new life by arming you with the tools to be successful. Im also nervous about starting the process but I'm more nervous about dying early. So I'm willing to give it a try.

Excellent point on the dying early part. My mom and grandma died in their 50’s hence the main reason for considering it. I’m self-pay, so none of the things you listed beforehand come with it. This site and all my research is all I have.

Are you able to seek out a therapist that can help with the anxiety?

Yes and that's very good but sometimes it is good to talk things through and I believe a therapist might be a good idea.

I agree with Frust8 I have a psychiatrist for my meds but they rarely have any interest in speaking to me. Therapy is about working out those issues and learning healthy coping mechanisms.

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
