LizzieBorden 3 Posted April 3, 2018 I’ve been banded since 2007. I had my band completely unfilled 5+ years ago. I just found out today that I have Gastroparesis. I’ve read that it can be caused by the band My insurance no longer covers any bariatric procedures. I would like to have my band removed and I was wondering if anyone has had luck getting insurance to cover removal for something like Gastroparesis?
txdavis 4 Posted April 4, 2018 Hi I got the band in 2011 and got it completely unfilled in April 2017. I am now going for the sleeve surgery and to have the band removed completely. My surgeon said my insurance doesn’t cover any bariatric surgeries either, but they presented that the band is a health issue for me and needed it to be removed. Just heard back yesterday that my insurance will cover band removal and sleeve conversion completely. Find a good surgeon and they will fight like hell to help you out. 1 PattyAnn39 reacted to this
LizzieBorden 3 Posted April 4, 2018 txdavis, thanks so much for responding! Gives me some hope. I am going to talk with my surgeon’s office tomorrow and see what they have to say.
AzzyandNatesmom 1 Posted May 12, 2018 I had the same nightmare. Only my band eroded into my stomach which caused my stomach and lover to attach. I developed gastropersis as well. Let me just tell you...take it oit asap!!! I had to fight the insurance company and doctors fought with me. So I finally had it removed 1 year ago. Because of the gastropersis I had so much pain andthe only surgery to fix that was the gastric bypass. I am now 3 weeks post op and Thank the Lord I have no more pain!!! LizzieBorden 3 Posted May 14, 2018 Goodness, you did have a nightmare! They don’t think my band has eroded, I hope they are right. My insurance denied coverage for the removal. Luckily my surgery has a reasonable self pay option. I plan to have it done in July. I’m so glad your pain is gone! I hope removing my band will help mine. AzzyandNatesmom 1 Posted May 14, 2018 I felt my best after the band was removed. Till the pain from the damaged nerve kicked in. But that year without my band was amazing! This gastric bypass hasn't been so bad. Again its another tool. Hasnt been easy for since I am a food addict for sure. I didn't realize till this surgery lol best of luck to you. The best is yet to come!
