Bcbs Michigan. No waiting period

Recommended Posts

I have bcbs of michigan and I live in Florida. Since my BMI is greater than 50 the documentation of 5 months in a weight loss plan has been waived. I have to do a psych eval, nutrional eval, egd, 2yrs weight history, and lab work. Wondering if anyone else had this experience and how soon they got the approval??

That's cool that they waived that, so often you hear of additions but seldom of deletions. The bad ,well sorta bad, they think you're close enough to the last roundup that they decided not to quibble anymore. I hope my own insurance still feels like that about me. Maybe we can sit together on the Weight Loss Bench together someday. Must be a very long one because a lot of people are getting surgery in April and May. I hope it has a pillowed seat, I'm losing fat off my tushie and It hurts to sit too long!

I have BCBS of Michigan. Got all my requirements done November 3rd....my bariatric office submitted everything and requested a surgery date of December 5th. BCBS of Michigan gave them the go ahead and had an approval letter in my hands within three weeks.

I was extremely happy with my experience with my group...who did all the paperwork and communicating with my insurance....the insurance company paid the claims promptly after my surgery...and the hospital treated me very well and continued to follow up and check on me even after I went home.

Just a great experience all the way around.

PS...I did have to do 6 months of dietitian visits, but my BMI was lower. I didn't mind at all.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
