I had my first scrambled egg for Breakfast today, 3 weeks after surgery. I could only eat about 1/2 of it before I felt it was not going down. I ate small bites very slowly. Does it get better with more time. I was so looking forward to my first real “food”.

I had gastric sleeve 3 weeks ago in Ocala Florida. I am feeling very good.

Yes, it does get easier. At first, making sure the Proteins were moist, not cooked to death, or in a little sauce of some sort helped them go down easier. Now I am 7 mos out and nothing bothers me, i have the restriction, but can eat anything with no problem.

Thank you for your reply. I see there is light at the end of the tunnel. 1/2 cup of lima Beans for lunch went down real easy and I will follow your recommendations for Proteins as I go forward on my journey.

I would echo what's been said and add as someone about a week ahead of you on the gastric sleeve food path, that the first couple meals were crazy and that it gets more normalized as you move through the next couple of weeks. You are still measuring your food, but you are less likely to encounter "surprising" limitations as long as you are sticking to the volume recommendations. Also just as a heads up the transition back to real food is also where you are likely to appear to hit a "stall," as you refill the digestive pipeline. Don't get frustrated it happens to pretty much everyone.

I think everyone is different. I am almost 8 weeks post op and my capacity for any solid food is pretty exactly 1 oz. Soft food or liquids I don't feel any restriction on, even surprising foods that seem solid like edamame. My neighbor had the same surgeon and is now 4.5 months post op, and she still has a 1 oz capacity. I asked my surgeon's PA about it this week, and she assured me it was normal, a desired outcome, and not to push it.

I personally LOVE having such a small capacity. A majority of the time I'm making good choices. But times I give into cravings, or am traveling and lack good choices, it really limits the amount of damage I can do to my weight loss.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
