Any MAY sleevers???

Recommended Posts

Looks like May 30th for me!!! Beat my weight goal by 3 pounds yesterday :D

I could do May 23, but that date won't work for my friend who is flying in to be with me the first few days. A can wait another week....maybe ;) I told my boss whose totally supportive, and I trust will keep it confidential. She suggested the story be a "woman's thing" as that would shut down most, but I said lets go with a minor abdominal surgery. I'm happy I'm in a supportive environment.

I'm doing well on my Paleo diet so surgeon said I only need to do the clear liquid thing the day before surgery day. I just have to attend a pre-surgery class about a week or so before and do a pre-op visit with my PCP.

I've seen more doctors and doctors' offices in the last 5 months than the last 3 years!

I go to my high school reunion back in Texas this weekend (and my birthday is tomorrow) so I'm planning the meals at the restaurants I already know about so I have some wiggle room for those where I'll have no control of the menu. I've also signed up for a 45 min spin class tomorrow morning so I can earn myself a birthday martini and 1/2 a dessert :D

To keep myself in check, I've set myself a surgery day weight goal. Knowing I had a specific goal that had to be made by a particular date really helped keep me on track. The work with my behavior therapist is gradually preparing me for the long-term.

This board and other research has helped super controlling, list making me to feel like I am as prepared as I can be for the next stages of this journey. Sooooo looking forward to being on the looser's bench.

Same for me! I start my prepping diet next monday

I’m also scheduled for VSG on 5/14. I get butterflies in my stomach when I think of it. I’m starting my pre-op diet on Saturday because I have a bad habit of going off the rails on weekends. I’m craving a last cheeseburger and fries although I kind of did that 6 weeks ago.

Where did you get that? I’ve been looking can’t find them anywhere

I'm guessing they're relatively new, because I hadn't seen them when I initially bought my Protein Shakes. I got them from Walmart in the Vitamin and health section. They were actually all sold out except the two cases I bought.

Getting so nervous, my insurance now has all of my documents for my appeal. Surgery is still scheduled for May 1st. I pre-registered at the hospital today and signed all of the forms and they walked me through the entire process when I arrive at 7 am next week. They will be starting immediately! I also have a mild hiatal hernia that the surgeon will be repairing during the surgery.

Fingers crossed that everything goes through, everyone at the insurance company knows me and my situation now so when I call the already know. When I spoke to the rep yesterday they said the appals department has reviewed my paperwork and were just waiting to see the supporting documents. Which they received yesterday.

Id love to hear how they said the process will go. I’m scheduled for May 2, and I find myself playing through how I guess it will go.

7L (28 cups) of rich homemade chicken stock.

It will chill overnight in the fridge then I can remove the solidified fat tomorrow and make some Soup to freeze in 75ml cubes, and I'll freeze some cubes of plain stock for drinking post op too.

Bought stock has nothing on the taste and nutrition of the real deal. :)

mine is may 14th. i went to the surgeon on Tuesday and i was in shock. they wanted to give me the 7th but my face got flushed and my mouth was opened in shock. i guess i didn't prepare for a date so soon. my biggest fear is dying, but that can happen at any point in my life. i am literally sitting here writing my wishes and will as we speak. just so i can have surgery with a piece of mind knowing my little ones will be taken care of. also the other fear is the mental hunger and the loneliness i might experience when i am unable to eat at the table with my family. just needed to share my thoughts

Remember your pen name-you are now ready for the new me! You won't need to write out your will, people don't and won't die from such a surgery, these days. Darlin' I'm 72 if anyone is going to have a chance of dying,it would be me not you! I'm not scared so you surely should NOT be. Surgery now, unlike the "Bad Old Days" which I am old enough to remember is like a stroll in the park. I have had multiple surgeries, since 2014 I have had 5 and my bariatric one still to go. So if anyone can give you testimony c'est moi!
Okay since you're still scared s***less, let's just relax a little. Now you've met your surgeon, I am going to assume a good he or she doctor. Surgeons, although they can act certainmy a little pushy at times, are very very smart doctors. Their pushiness is nothing more than educated bravery, you have to be brave to cut people open and sew them up again. Let's hope you've developed a level of friendship and trust. Okay this friend will,do their level best to be make sure you have a smooth safe surgery. You want it, they want it so you know it's going to happen just that way. Okay, the night before you may not sleep well, perfectly normal, your mind will be working overtime, happens to all of us.You are going to be NPO from midnight on, no drinkee, no eatee. What I have done and I bet you will too- I go around and kiss everyone while they sleep. Yes you are doing this surgery for YOU but also so you can be still here for them. You're a mom.,this is what you do. Get some rest, in the morning go to the hospital or clinic, put a smile on your face and tuck hope into your heart. You will meet a,lot of nurses and techs, everyone of them kind c and nice people. Change into a gown, go tinkle one more time, I always need to every time, curl up. on your bed, relax, keep that darn smile on your face. I worked in and on the edges of nursing for 25 years, yes they will still take care of you but a pleasant acting patient gets all the perks, those nurses appreciate it. They will come start an IV, they are super good at what they do, but if you have what I have, veins that "roll" gently warm them Once they had to use an " airplane" needle to keep mine secure. These are used normally in pediatrics for scalp veins on small kids, they have a little plate so they lay flat. But I'm diverting from my subject, aren't I? You may start to get sleepy now,but maybe you're still alert. Pretty soon you'll be rolling down the hall and off to your Date with Destiny. Now Operating Theatre are as a rule cold-ish. I accused my ortho one time of doing it deliberately. You may see your surgeon before you go to sleep, you may not. I've had it both ways. You may remember sliding over into the table, you may not. One of mine, I had a broken limb being surgically reduced, they told me to pull myself over, I responded that if I could do that, I wouldn't be there. Last thing I remember was them. stretching my arms to the side and securing them. I mention this because they may do that for you. Sometimes the anesthesiologist asks you to count backwards, often you're already going to sleep. Didn't mind my arms being secured, made me feel they were keeping,me safe.
And then you go smoothly to sleep, the next thing you remember is waking up,in recovery. Remember to ask for an anti nausea patch behind your ear, it does help. Your tummy may feel tender, but it may not. Everybody has a different story at this point. There will be a lot of techs and nurses scurrying around but right now you are the star and they'll take super good care of you. When you are recovered and stable enough you'll go back to your room, you may have an cathetet, you may not. If not get up, move around, go to the bathroom, you'll start on your walkies, sippies and still smile,as much,as possible. You've made it through and everything will get better day by day. And that my,love, is just how it's going to be! Feel a little less nervous? Goody! Now remember to post as soon as you feel like it, we love to be updated and we all will Celebrate with you. And when my Bariatric Day comes as it will in a month or so you'll be able to nod your head and say "I remember That!"
Hugs and a kiss on the cheek for the future. your friend Frust8

I know there are several on this post who said they're surgery is early May, one person said surgery is 4/29 but I can't find it now. Can we please all post our dates again? I want to hear others experiences and also share my own. My surgery is 5/3/18.

I have my pre op appointment on May 10 and will get my date then. I have been on his pre op diet for a week and a half, so I am pretty sure I will get the May date I desire!

H- 5'3" Age: 52

HW - 267 11/15/2017

CW - 233 4/28/2018.

I am diabetic, and I have SLE and asthma. My left knee is bone on bone and the orthopedic surgeon won't touch it until I lose weight. I am ready ready ready to get this done. I know it will greatly improve my quality of life not to have a Backstreet Boy for a backside. I am not sure about goal weight. I want to be realistic, but I don't want stop just because I get there if there is more that I can do.

Sorry for the novel!

Suggestions wanted!!

I am 4 days in my pre op diet and I’m craving so many foods. It’s torture. How long does this last? Has anyone experienced this? I even had a dream last night that I ate a donut and the surgery got cancelled.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
