jules1 51 Posted April 13, 2018 I wondered if anyone here knows if pumpkin is allowed in 2 week preop diet. My diet sheet hasn't mentioned it.

My diet sheet hasn't mentioned it. my pre-op diet list only specifically says no potato, kumara or sweet potatoes. However I know sweet corn, pumpkins, and peas are also quite sweet. Maybe check with your nutritionist? Post surgery it will only be potatoes and sweet potatoes that I limit, most other veggies will be ok. I just picked up several cauliflowers on special to make some smooth cauliflower Soup (which has a little sharp cheese and potato in it) to have frozen ready for liquids phase. Once I can have mushy foods I'll have my more usual chicken and vegetable Soups - including the estimated 6g of Protein in real homemade chicken stock, plus a scoop of bodie'z unflavored protein (15g) plus any soft bits of chicken I throw in, a simple bowl of chicken and veg soup will give me at least a third of my needed protein for the day. And I love my soups (as do my husband and son, haven't been able to convince my daughter yet) - the more fresh stuff included from my garden the better (herbs, garlic, carrots, zucchini, tomatoes mostly). I'll attach word documents of the cauliflower and cheese soup, and a nice-sounding mushroom soup that I plan to make for liquids phase. I"ll probably do a fairly thin basic butternut pumpkin soup with a little potato, carrot and cumin in it too. Your home garden sounds great. I grow herbs, chard and cos lettuce and have been prepping today for post op. I did Kent pumpkin. Chard and carrots. All cooked softer than usual. I just had to make sure I froze correct amounts for reduced stomach.I realise preop diet sheet says squash allowed so I think pumpkin is in the squash family so I added a bit to my vegetable curry. I also made a rustic vegetable soup with some cannelini Beans for protein. I am pretty nervous as it will be hard to feel so hungry while feeding family as normal and I am a midnight snacker which will be difficult to curtail. My dietician said to have protein Snacks if I get hungry. Are you worried about hunger?

My dietician said to have protein Snacks if I get hungry. Are you worried about hunger? You can freeze things like Soups and purees in ice cubes then pop them in snap-lok bags and just take whatever volume you need at a time. I have a few large icecube moulds from kmart which hold maybe 75ml each - they might prove useful for freezing small soup and pure portions. I'm not really worried about hunger. So far I'm doing fine on the VLCD pre-op diet the past few days, and that's before I have most of my stomach removed. I had a tin of smoked rainbow trout and broccoli and green Beans for dinner, a choc-hazelnut VLCD shake for lunch at 2:30, a coffee with 200ml 1% milk at 12, and one scrambled egg at 9:30am. Once I get my bodie'z unflavoured protein delivered (hopefully by mid next week) I'll include a scoop of that for an extra 15g protein in my coffee and I'll be set. (Can't yet stomach the shakes for both brekky and lunch)

They are rescheduling my endoscopy and I have my consent signing visit next week. (though will be about a half day ahead of you here in Aussie land) *I'm not sure why my ticker is displaying May 1st* (copied below what I pasted in the April/May thread too) I'm jumping in here now as I just got my date today! 2 May 2018 is my surgery date, and have started my pre-op phase immediately as they would ideally have liked me on the pre-op diet for 4 weeks with my BMI so close to 50. Kids will be back at school that week after the 2 week term holiday, and hubby will be taking a week and a half off to manage the kidlets (6 & 9 years) while I'm in hospital and my first few days at home. Any other Aussies in here? I'm in Adelaide and going with Dr Michael France at Ashford Specialist Centre. I am so crazy excited, and glad I'm not having to jump through insurance hoops and lengthy delays like so many US sleevers. I will have to stick with just lean meats/protein and veggies today and tomorrow until my formulite Meal Replacements arrive by post (can't have Optifast as aspartame and other artificial sweeteners trigger nasty Migraines for me), then 2 shakes and one lean meat & veg meal a day until 2 days before surgery, only shakes the last day before surgery. *does jiggly happy dance*
