Any MAY sleevers???

Recommended Posts

I just found out from my insurance company that I was approved! They told me the date of 5/15...I am guessing that is my surgery date? I haven't heard from the doc office yet! I am on the lower end of the BMI..

HW: 202

CW: 199

GW: 130

BMI: 35

Height: 5'3"

I am excited for my journey to start to get my health back on track and start anew!

I have a date for May 7th! Super excited but also scared. I suffer from anxiety and panic disorder, but I am going to push through, because I need this!

May 2nd here as well SmileyMay! (though will be about a half day ahead of you here in Aussie land) :)
*I'm not sure why my ticker is displaying May 1st*

(copied below what I pasted in the April/May thread too)

I'm jumping in here now as I just got my date today! 2 May 2018 is my surgery date, and have started my pre-op phase immediately as they would ideally have liked me on the pre-op diet for 4 weeks with my BMI so close to 50.

Kids will be back at school that week after the 2 week term holiday, and hubby will be taking a week and a half off to manage the kidlets (6 & 9 years) while I'm in hospital and my first few days at home.

Any other Aussies in here? I'm in Adelaide and going with Dr Michael France at Ashford Specialist Centre.

I am so crazy excited, and glad I'm not having to jump through insurance hoops and lengthy delays like so many US sleevers.

I will have to stick with just lean meats/protein and veggies today and tomorrow until my formulite Meal Replacements arrive by post (can't have Optifast as aspartame and other artificial sweeteners trigger nasty Migraines for me), then 2 shakes and one lean meat & veg meal a day until 2 days before surgery, only shakes the last day before surgery.

*does jiggly happy dance*

Feel the same way. But keep telling myself to push through as I am tired of constantly being anxious about will I fit there, can I walk that, will I break it, what's the weight requirement etc etc etc. Or panicking when I tried skiing as I had this horrible thought that I wouldn't be able to stand if I fell down...since currently I have to do the whole turn around and get up from the knees

woohoo, my Meal Replacements are on board with postal service for delivery today. Hopefully in time to have one for lunch (will just have a scrambled egg for brekky again).

I've decided the last "Family portrait" my 8 year old daughter drew was prophetic - skinny mummy :) However she's hilarious at the moment any time I mention my impending operation and weight loss.. "but mummy... I love hugging your big fat tummy!!! the more the merrier!". I continue to reassure her that I will still be awesome to hug, even when much skinnier.

(P.S. I"ve only told my mum and sister about the op so far. Now that I have a date I may choose to tell a few more people but will likely keep details off Facebook for a while.)

I had fun looking for photos of me - I make a conscious effort not to hide from photos being taken, but mostly post images of my veggie garden online rather than myself. I'll probably get my hubby to take some full length "before" photos of me soon for future comparisons.

A very sweet looking couple, I look forward to seeing an updated one of you both when you reach goal. Is it a promise?

Yep, photo updates are a promise :) Having been obese since my late teens I've been on the receiving end of weight stigma all my life (now 38) but worked hard over the last 15 years working on my mental health after getting off the weightloss-regain(more) merry go round once I accepted that the medical evidence overwhelmingly proves that the failure of dieting&exercise is the fault of the dieting&exercise (and the system/metabolic changes it causes) not dieters being weak-willed. I have no problem being seen in public, having my fat arms showing, being photographed etc. Having a wonderful and very supportive husband who I started dating back when I was 15 probably helped, as I didn't suffer through the weight-bias of dating as an adult.

I made an effort to be positive and accepting of my fat body (and the term "fat"), appreciate who it can/does do for me and treat it better not by further harming my physical and mental health by dieting, instead figuring out all the stuff that didn't agree with me and avoiding that (I get headaches and Migraines from a lot of stuff, natural things like wine and citrus, and many ingredients in processed foods like artificial sweeteners, soy and MSG in its many hidden forms) and growing a lot of healthy veggies at home. So I've really been eating quite "well/natural" (but too much) for many years, and had two very healthy children (with two losses in between) with perfect blood sugar/cholesterol/blood pressure, but still remained morbidly obese/borderline super obese. I have worked hard to teach/display to my kids healthy eating behavours, and a healthy attitude towards our own bodies and the bodies of other people, and the fact that mummy is fine with using the word fat to describe her body, but because the world is very negative about fat bodies, most other people will be upset if you refer to them as fat.

Lol, sorry for the essay :)

No problem --everyone on here will tell you, I'm just the same way. I grab a-hold of a topic and often run with it. You are the same age as my son, he will,be 39 on the 12th of June. Still lives with me, I wish he always will. I have one other living child, RD short for Rotten Daughter, every family tree has at least one sour [emoji519] I gave birth to mine. She is incredibly self-centered, most of the blame goes to her 2 grandmothers who competed to give her gifts and one-up each other, if 1 bought her a dress the other must buy her tights and shoes, then a coat, then a fur hat and muff and on and on. My late husband and I tried to intercede, both grandmothers raised up on their haunches and screeched like banshees at us. How dare we interfere with their God given grandmother rights to spoil little Precious rotten? And sorry to say, we acquiesced because they were our mothers and neither of us were raised to argue or be cheeky to our parents. The upshot: I have a 49 year old daughter who believes God asks her express permission for the sun to rise each morning, is willing not to speak -call- or text me although we live no more than 6/10ths of a mile, maybe 1 km apart. Last time when we spoke about my upcoming surgery she quickly turned the conversation to herself and her problems. If I had told her I was going to squat over a buzz saw and expose my lady parts to the blade she would have been no more concerned. So I guess I'll just have to give up with trying to have a meaningful relationship. Sad isn't it? She was. first grandchild on both sides, my only child until her first brother came along 7 years later. I mourn the loss of relationship, she alas does not. I will still go forward with my surgery with the full support of my youngest,my son. Although his father and I endeavored to raise all three to be upright decent people it only took with him and his older brother, my angel son who died at 31 from an undiagnosed heart condition. He would have been 42 on 7th May were he still living and Bryan my remaining son and I still miss him after 10 years have elapsed. Perhaps we always will. But I still am moving on towards my surgery day and a start to a better healthier life. The dimishment in physical size is just a beautiful added bonus. Perhaps May, I don't know yet, my journey has been on hold for several months but I hope and pray the gears start turning again.on the 25th when I have a psych appointment. Sometime I promise to fill you in on the whole story, but I'm frightened somehow I'll jinx myself. Thank you for putting up with a ginger- headed 72 year old. fat person with a little too much weight on her body and wanting to make a permanent change.[emoji14]

I'm glad you are able to look past the obstacles and see the support systems you have in place. And it will be especially good to have some young blood in there while you're going through recovery [emoji1]

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
