Had my first challenge today: Easter dinner, where only my husband and SIL know about the surgery. I surreptitiously moved food around my plate, and unloaded a big chunk to my husband's plate. And I ate a few small bites of ham and macaroni and cheese, a few blueberries and a raspberry. Since weighing my food wasn't an option, I ate conservatively, and planned/met my Protein requirements before dinner. Success!! And damn, people eat a lot of food, don't they? I never noticed before!!

Anybody else have a similar experience?

Yeah and they shovel it in so fast they seldom taste it. I was one of the worst offenders, I ate like someone was going to take it away from me. And I'm an only child, think how I would have been if I had a roomfu'll [emoji68][emoji67][emoji66][emoji65][emoji64]of siblings. Now with my practice chewing, regretfully I am still pre-surg, I now know the tastes and alas the texture of well chewed food. No kvetch,i know it's ahead in my future for quite a while if not forever, but I will soldier on to the finish. Having to up my denture adhesive a little so I don't loosen and clack but it's still doable. As Easter[emoji195]finishes us,we will have scrambled eggs, yeah Bunny didn't corner them all, hash brown patties, and sausage for Tomkitten, my son and heir to my miniscule fortune. Might eat a little hash brown, since I've been reforming on my diet and the gastritis, I can't eat as much at a time. Peeves him but I reassure him it's for the best. I will never eat again to the level he does. And Its Still for the Best. Greetings to you- Mr [emoji519] and the little seedlings in your orchard. And thank SIL for keeping her mouth shut towards the rest of the family.[emoji12]

I made myself mini Easter eggs in advance - by wrapping individual grapes in coloured foil squares, and unwrapping them when with the family and eating them - no-one noticed! And I feel like I had a treat, as well....

People eat an INSANE amount of food, I've been to a couple of work dinners and it's crazy how your perception changes because I know I was one of the big eaters before surgery. I ended up going out and buying a new set of place settings for home because I now can't imagine ever filling up even a salad plate, so I've found a bunch of really small bowls, some of which are technically categorized as "sauce bowls" or "peanut dishes". Unexpectedly that's also helped when doing work events, the dimensions of the small dishes are now so familiar that I can eyeball what would fit on one, rather than trying to downsize from a dinner plate.

Not to necessarily boost WallyWorld but in Housewares department there like little guacamole dishes right near the silicon spatulas, hand can openers etc. Those would also work nicely. Dang, I worked there so long I can picture the layout in my mind still. Whatever![emoji68]

I bought six of those pre-op as part of my stocking up for surgery process, because I knew they'd come in handy, and they definitely have! So have the little 2-ounce measuring cups that measure both ounces and tablespoons.

We did a buffet brunch at a restaurant with my extended family. Only my mom knows about my surgery. I was pleasantly surprised that no one noticed I barely ate. My capacity is only 1 oz, so just moving stuff around doesn't really work. I was prepared to tell if someone had asked, as I didn't want to mislead my family, but grateful no one did. The hardest part was paying $40!

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
