Cheated on my liquid diet but proud!

Recommended Posts

So, today was difficult for me. I'm 9 days into a 30 day liquid diet but today... I was so hungry. I thought of a million ways to cheat. I was waiting for my roommate to leave so I could head to burger king or taco bell. I thought about binging on Cookies, pop & chips.

On my liquid diet I'm only allowed Protein Shakes (4) and raw veggies. That's it. I had no energy at all day today... I wanted to binge eat everything.

Instead, I compromised. I boiled some carrots, onions and peppers with a little seasoning and ate that instead. It's still cheating but... I'm proud of myself. I'm not beating myself up about it. The old me would have caved and ate junk food... Progress!

Good for you. That said the whole raw veggies sounds like bunk to me. I can't think of a single reason that cooked veggies shouldn't be allowed other than lazy doctors/nutritionists find it easier than having to explain that they don't want you eating starchy vegetables (nobody is going to eat raw potato).

I had such a horrible time, myself. I had a headache that wouldn't go away. I ate 2 scramble eggs. My headache went away almost immediately. The struggle was real.

Right! They said it's because when people cook things they add other ingredients that they shouldn't like salt, pepper, butter, ect. I feel like my liquid diet is tougher than most! But everyone probably feels that way [emoji31]

2 eggs doesn't sound too bad. Better than junk food! Just don't make it a habit. That's what i keep telling myself. What does your liquid diet consist of?

I think objectively your liquid diet is tougher than most (the only one worse was someone here posted that they had to drink nothing but skim milk for a month). Most people only have a two week one and many more still can still have at least one sensible meal a day on the diet. Mine was 2 weeks, shake for Breakfast, shake for lunch, and then a dinner with lean Protein, vegatables (cooked), and a small bit of starch.

At the end of the day the point of the preop diet is to get you into Ketosis so you shrink you liver quickly (which usually takes about a week) everything else that they do to us on these diets are because we are too stupid to understand carb=bad and/or too undisciplined to stick to it for a week.

Makes even less sense when you factor in Skim milk is a decent source of carbohydrates and contains no Fiber.

It's so hard!! I wish I could have SOMETHING... anything :'( idk how they expect me, a fat person with an eating disorder, to go cold turkey like this! But I'm looking at it like a test. If I can do this, then I'll do great after the surgery!

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
