Now that I am on pureed, I notice that my tastes have changed. For example, I really like Greek Yogurt now, whereas before surgery, I couldn't stand it. I bought some shaved pepperoni and ended up throwing it out. I hated the way it tasted and I used to love pepperoni. It's really interesting how things have changed. Even eating is still mechanical and brings me no feeling of joy. It's just eating to live now and I am grateful for it. I wonder if this surgery could be a cure for an eating disorder?

Surgery definitely alters the taste buds. But the interesting thing is that your taste will continue to change. So a week from now something that you liked is no longer palatable and something you couldn't stand becomes acceptable. So just keep experimenting because it changes over time.

I remember the first time I tried ketchup after surgery, It tasted like hot sauce. But then after a few months it began to taste like ketchup again.

Hiya @Mattymatt

I am 3.5 months post op, and my tastes have really changed - and stayed changed so far! I used to really detest salad - what a waste of eating time. Now, though - lettuce salad is actually a sweet joy! I thought I would crave sweets - but that hasn’t really happened.

I thought I would crave my old eating, more. I don’t miss my old junk food, but am loving halloumi, fresh fish, and other Protein treats.

Embrace those changes in taste - makes losing weight and sticking to plan SO much easier!

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
