2-Week Pre-op diet starts tomorrow

Recommended Posts

Any one else have surgery the week of the 9th? I’m scheduled for the sleeve on the 14th. I have to admit I haven’t stocked up for my liquids, and the nutritionist kindly reminded me earlier that tomorrow is kickoff! Any one mid-process, I’m curious on you keep going when you’re running on empty?

I am on day 4 and its been rough! The first 3 days i had major Migraine and the hunger postings were awful. Today was better. I just get tired faster. My pre op consist of sugar free liquid, sf cool pops, Protien shakes broth and one bariatric approved Protein Bar a day. My surgery is April 10th.

I just had surgery on the 26th but, I did a pre op Optifast diet for 4 weeks pre op. The first week was hell with carb and sugar withdrawal. After that first week, it got much easier.

Hang in there. This will make your surgery much safer and be well worth it in the end. Remember to drink as much Water as you can hold. It will help flush the toxins out and give you a feeling of satiety.

I'm on day 9 of a 30 day liquid diet. Only Protein Shakes (4) & raw veggies. Nothing else. I've been a little moody, and hungry but doing better than expected.

Just keep thinking about your surgery and your goals! That's what I'm doing!

I feel like my diet pre and post op are very strict.

PreOp and up to 7 weeks after my surgeon will not allow me to have any solid food.

Does anybody else have a diet this strict?

· 2 weeks preop diet: Protein Shakes and Clear Liquids only

· 2 weeks post op diet: Protein shakes and clear liquids only

· 3 & 4 weeks postop: I can add in creamy liquids

· 5 & 6 weeks postop: I can add in pureed foods

· 7+ weeks: I can slowly integrate solid foods.

Mine is exactly the same. I had doubts on whether I’ll be successful post-surgery, but I’m trying to keep positive. It’s just the liquids for 2 weeks without sleeve is gonna be rough.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
