Greetings Everyone!! Does anyone have comments on how soon you were able to actually start exercising after surgery i.e walking outside , cardio . I'm also interested in knowing how soon you guys started to drive after surgery . I suffer from major depressive disorder and I have found that in addition to my meds being outside and exercising enhances my mood tremendously. I'm so glad I found this site, I have received so much info from all of you and I am excited to know you all will be here after my surgery as a support .

I believe you are supposed to be walking from the moment you wake up in recovery. As for cardio I got clearance to go back to the gym to do cardio (have to wait 4-5 weeks to go back to weights) about 12 days out from surgery, but I think this is more of a go at your own pace type of thing. As for driving I don't think there is any limitation so long as you aren't taking a pain medication that causes drowsiness.

For me it was a bit different went to surgery on March 5th started walking since I woke up, went home 2 days after surgery, on may 9th started walking 5k (2.5 in the morning, 2.5 in the afternoon) on week 2 Dr cleared me to go do stationary machines at the gym and light weights, so I’ve been doing just that normally do 30 min elliptical and 30 min weights only 45 lbs no more than that on weights but talk to your Dr every single one of them has a different playbook but they all have you best interests in mind

I started driving 5 days after surgery to go to work. My doctor said to make sure I could twist to look at my blind spots without pain. It was totally bearable. And of course, don't be on pain meds! Haha. He and my dietitian tell me to walk everyday and will allow me full, rigorous cardio / weights 6 weeks post op.

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Had a sleeve in 2017, lost over 100 pounds. Had a DS surgery this year (2025) for more sustainable weight loss. 🤞

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.

Neat you have a pic of this day! I was sooo happy to get my surgery. It was well worth it! And I'm not even near my goal. I had surgery Dec. 2!
