Pre-op diet changes - Hungry!

Recommended Posts

I had my first nutritionist visit and an trying to eat less. What I eat isn’t my biggest issue. But I’m hungry!! Did others find this part so hard? Ugh! My constant hunger is part of my decision to do the surgery. I feel like I’m make my mystlf miserable and shouldn’t have to. Surgery will help with the hunger issue. Why do I have to feel like I’m starving now?

Several ideas come to mind. 1 Your body was happy beebopping along, now you ask it to survive on less fuel. Danger- she may start to starve. First,I'll ask my friend appetite to give her hunger pangs, if that doesn't work i'll slow her metabolism down and we'll go into starvation mode. 2. Sometimes GERD and gastritis can mimic hunger symptoms. What was (notice I said was) my go-to, a big bowl of cold creamy fat and sugar laden ice cream. Now I have love handles, a muffin top and a hubba hubba hiney. I'm not an easy flip-and- move, I require extensive renovation. 3. The hunger may be in your head instead of your tummy. Your unconscious mind doesn't have give up easy. It says We've always done it the other way. It worked the other way. Why can't you leave well enough alone?

Just a few thoughts from yours truly![emoji14]5. Outside chance it could be something else, check with your medical persons when you get a chance.

I guess I'm feeling frustrated by the entire process because it seems unnecessary to go so strict. I'm not going to end up losing a bunch of weight.....if I could, I wouldn't be looking toward surgery. If I get used to it, yup, it's starvation mode in my mind which is part of why I'm fat to begin with - yo-yo dieting. I stopped gaining once I stopped dieting. Just can't lose though. I guess I just need to vent and feel like I'm not alone in the frustration.

Did the nutritionist lay out a dietary plan for you? Granted, all my nutritionist told me on the first visit was to cut out carbonated beverages and avoid carbs after Breakfast. I also had to meet with a dietician at the hospital who basically said I had to meet a certain number of grams of per day pre- and post-surgery, so I took it upon myself to just go full Keto. The advantages of doing keto are no calorie counting and little portion measuring, plus with all of the meat, eggs and I cheese I get, I haven't felt hungry in several weeks.

So I suggest calling the nutritionist again and asking if he/she has any specific recommendations for you other than "eat less".

You're not alone. 99.999% of everything that happens to you will already have happened to someone else. I'm three & a half years post surgery but I remember the phase you're in well. I was so irritable. One reason your surgical team is having you do this now is they need to see you demonstrate some discipline. The surgery isn't going to do all the work for you. In fact, it's just a tool. You have to know how to use it effectively. Part of that is learning how to prepare less food, learning how to consume less food, & probably moving more. You're exactly where you should be. Good luck!

What is your diet plan? I just had second dietician visit yesterday. First was on feb 26. She started me then on low carb and it was hard at first but it has really helped overall. I’m down 20 lbs so far in just a month.

Try to stick with it and remember each visit you are given new tools to help lessen the shock of what life will be like after surgery. Plus losing before helps shrink your liver and makes anesthesia safer, both things that contribute to better safer surgery overall. You can do it!!!

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
