I was told to lose 10lbs well I lost 10 and plus now dr is telling me that if I lose anymore won’t qualify for surgery even when insurance approved me already! Stressed out!

I had the same issue. I went from a BMI of 40 at the start of the process to a BMI of like 35.5 on my last pre-op visit. I wouldn't worry too much about it, if you need to put some rolls of pennies in you pockets or chug a big bottle of Water right before your last pre-op weigh in.

It's a valid concern! I ended up being self pay because I had only a 2 lb buffer to work with and decided it was too risky. I was drinking sweat tea every day in an effort to maintain, but felt awful. So I decided to pay cash, switched Dr's and said to heck with insurance. Much less stressful. I feel your pain, I wasn't cut out for that level of stress :)

It’s just crazy to me that he told me to lose weight than i do and tells me no more. I know with others he didn’t tell to lose weight bc they weren’t way pass 40 I feel like he is too busy and doesn’t get to know each patient and just says to me what he says to other ppl. I wasn’t required to lose weight either for insurance or anything...
Thanks for responding!!!

@angjade2

you are officially approved by insurance, right??

"the" ins company go by your first weigh in on dr scale pre-op

if you lose weight during pre-op it should/will not effect change in status.

doc is probably very smart/good performing your WLS, but.....

i don't think he knows his asss from his elbow!:lol:

don't stress (you'll get wrinkles)!!

good luck

kathy

I asked my doctor this question and the insurance counts your first weight and highest not subsequent weights. He’s wrong. Approved is approved

Every insurance company is different, but most definitely do not go by your initial weight. They generally approve you to begin the process based on your initial weight (which mean approving referals for nutrition, psych eval, sleep study (if indicated), etc, but you don't get approved for surgery (aka get a surgery date) until all of that is submitted and dropping out of the Morbidly Obese category is sure one way they will use to deny you, but again every insurance company is different and if the OP thinks that hers has approved her for surgery then cest la vie.
