Gain weight on liquid diet?

Recommended Posts

You must be really well hydrated. All seriousness that is quite a feat, if you've been doing what you've supposed to have been doing then I would guess it comes down to timing. Perhaps your last weight measurement was off because you were dehydrated.

It's because Protein isolate is extremely insulinogenic and causes many people's insulin to spike. (And my bgs.) So you have a resultant accumulation of Fluid from it.

This happened to me the first time I was trying to find Protein Drinks I could tolerate. On nothing but protein isolates in 5 days, I gained 4 lbs and my blood pressure went up an average of about 15pts.

I ended up having to really do Premier Protein cuz it's part whey concentrate which is more slow acting protein. I also only drank at the most 2 1/2 of them per day. I also made sure to stay so hydrated and didn't drink a bunch of Water drops.

Tuckersmom....my nutritionist actually warned us that this occasionally happens. She said not to worry...if it happens, it doesn't mean you're broken. Just stick to the program. All is well. It's kinda rare...but it does happen to a few people...and she was one of them when she had her surgery.

My liquids are specific from my surgeon so I’m not allowed to change to a different Protein Drink. I am drinking at least 48 oz of Water daily. Some days more. Just bit frustrating. [emoji21]

Do you mix shake with Water or milk. I’ve switched from unsweetened Almond milk to water

Thank you for this. I have been on the pre op liquid diet since 3/27 and have only lost a couple of pounds. I feel like I'm starving even so many days into it and noticed fatigue today. I was worried that I have messed up my metabolism from all the yo yo dieting I've done over my lifetime and my prior history of having the lap band.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
