Recommended Posts

Hello everyone! My name is Jessica I live in Utah and my husband finally told me I could get this surgery. So... now I need to get it done. I just dont know where to start. I need to find a good doctor. But I think Im going to have to go to Mexico because it is cheaper and since I have to pay out of pocket that seems to be a better choice. So if anyone ones a good doctor in Mexico please tell me and tell me your story so I know what im going to go into. Also if anyone knows a doctor here in Utah that does fills let me know that. I want to get this started soon. I cant wait I want it done next WEEK LOL. Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks Jessica:p

Hello from Provo. Going up and down the 1-15 there are so many billboards advertising lap band/ plastic surgery/ and more.

That's how I learned of the band. I did the research and went to Huacuz Surgical Center just across the border in Mexico...Baja. He is doing a seminar in Florida soon but I wish he'd come here to Utah.

He's wonderful and very experienced. Just because we are self pay doesn't mean we give up on quality surgeons.

I paid 7,000 flat for everything...including cardio consult, psych evaluation, surgicenter, meds, everything.

Huacuz Surgical Center is his site. I've not heard anyone say anything bad about him.

Also, for aftercare and fills, I use a doctor in Salt Lake...Murry acutally. He has his own practice and does fills for people passing through, too.

Good luck!

I can write more about my experience w/ Dr. Huacuz, going to Mexico, having fills done here.... just let me know if you want more info.

When I type in websites, this site turns it into a link..but it's www dot huacuz dot com

Dr. McKeen is excellent in Utah. I believe he is out of Salt Lake City. You can call his San Jose, CA office and find out. He works out of both locations. Good luck.

Hi from Montana!

I got banded by Dr. Aceves in Tijuana last Thursday. He and his team are EXCELLENT. They all speak great English and took a great deal of time explaining everything to me beforehand. They were professional and thorough and I felt very safe. My cost for everything--including the extensive pre-screenings, the hospital, surgery, a year of fills, etc. was $7250. He also works out of a hospital in Mexicali and travels to the US to teach US doctors how to do the procedure.

Let me know if I can get contact info or anything else for you. I'm only 5 days into it, but am feeling great and so glad I made the decision. Good luck!!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
