Endoscopy- Waived or not?

Recommended Posts

I had it and a bunch of other stuff lol but my surgeon did say since I had a history of reflux and never had an endoscopy done before that was his process. Good luck I'm scheduled for May 23rd surgery so maybe we will be in same month :-)

Would be nice to have a surgery buddy! I hope my surgeon tells me next week :)

My endoscopy is in April only beginning my 4th month pre op. I’m a little scared about it. Cause if swallowing issues and acid reflux do to a new med I’ve been on. I’m clueless about what the test will show. HELP!!

My surgeon only requires scoping for some patients, age, symptom, and risk factor dependent.

All the hoops we jump through to do this. . . . . I am almost done with the process too! Meet with my surgeon next week. Hope to get a date right after that. But still need cardiology sign off.

We will probably have surgery about the same time, I'll be your buddy!

Yeah but once you reach a certain age(50 in most places, 40 or earlier with a family history) doctors try to sell you on colonoscopy like an insurance agent on speed who hasn't made his monthly quota. And they get so bent out shape they nearly can kiss their toes if you say "Thanks but No Thanks!". Been there, done that and I'm safe from their tender mercies until the Autumn of 2022, barring any colonic deterioration![emoji7]

That's bc colon cancer is almost entirely preventable. The idea of a colonoscopy freaks people out, but cancer is worse.

I am getting a colonoscopy as soon as I am old enough. Bring it on! Cancer sucks.

My son had one at 37 by our gastroenterologist, gave him peace of mind, all he has is internal hemmoroids. Remember Katie Couric's husband Jay Monahan, died at 41 or 42 with colon cancer. They had 2 daughters and I bet they will be screened early in their adulthood.[emoji14]

I meet with her next Thursday! I am similarly hoping to get a date right after [emoji4]. I am very excited! What’s your pre-op regimen look like?

I could be wrong, but I don't think you have to worry. If it shows ulcers, you'll go on medication prior to surgery. If it shows hernia, surgeon will take care of that in op. If it does show Barret's Esophogus (which is mainly what they are checking for) then you will start medication prior to surgery.

Kay...an ulcer was found when my endoscopy was done. It was determined the anti-inflammatory medication I was on caused the ulcer. I stopped the medicine and like you said I was put on medicine, Prilosec to be exact, which zapped out the ulcer in a few weeks. Good luck to all! =)

Awesome. I'm sure you'll be around my surgery date so we will be buddies. Keep us updated on your process and good luck.

I have to have an endoscopy but I have no idea why. What are they going to be looking for? Why do some have to have it but others don't? I guess they put you to sleep so you won't gag on the camera. I am going to ask my doctor why she wants me to have one.

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
