Gosh I Really Miss All The Anxiety Right Before Surgery!!!!

Recommended Posts

As surgeries go, that was kind of . . . well, I was going to say, a piece of cake. Probably the wrong metaphor! But it wasn't bad at all--but I'm a veteran of about seven or eight other surgeries (tonsils, gall bladder, hysterectomy, carpal tunnel . . .), and it really was similar to the gall bladder removal (also laparoscopic).

As with everything medical, there are a lot of variations. But honestly, it isn't necessarily bad. I had pain for the first ten minutes or so when I woke up and pretty much none after that. No energy for a few weeks, but that's about it for the downside. Not a super speedy loser, but still, more than 70 pounds gone!!

Best of luck!

Yep I hear ya hon. I kept asking in recovery, "Hey, I thought I was supposed to have a bunch of gas bloating and pain in my shoulders and stuff." LOL. They told me that the doctor evacuated as much of the gas as they could out of my abdomen. It was flat and soft and pliable! I was amazed! And had zero gas pain or bloating!

It truly was the easiest of all my surgeries and definitely easier than any of the cancer or reconstruction surgeries! Def easier than my hysterectomy too.

I didn't even suck on energy. It's been sickeningly WONDERFUL and easy. I just don't get it really. All that angst for nothin!

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
