Pureed food recipes?

Recommended Posts

I can't stand the thought of blenderized food. I can Doo the eggs. I love eggs. But is there any good food that is pureed that comports to the post-op diets?

And if I do blenderize food, what would be a good, cheap blender for small portions?

Did your doc actually tell you that you would be eating pureed food? Cuz I didn't find out until after surgery and at my appropriate check-up that I got to bypass the purees and go straight for soft mechanical.

I can't remember where I got it, but I used a Ninja bullet blender, which was great for size and power. I didn't do much in the way of meal preparation--my big move in the pureed department was to puree a can of beef vegetable Soup. But after all the sweet Protein Shakes, I was so happy to eat something that wasn't sweet!

I also tried something with canned chicken, but I thought that was disgusting. Had about half a container of yogurt daily. I did not love the pureed or soft mushy phase at all--I simply put up with all that stuff for the first month. So happy to be eating real food again after that.

A lot of people swear by refried Beans or pureed chili, though, for what it's worth.

My favorite pureed meal was a few meatballs with marinara sauce and a sprinkle of parmesan, mixed up in a blender with a scoop of unflavored Protein Powder. Tasted like the meat sauce left on a plate after eating spaghetti.

Check with your Dr. I didn’t have to do purée and was able to go from liquid to soft .

Well, my program is pretty much universal for the participants, unless someone has a medical condition I suppose. We are two weeks liquid, then they say 5-8 pureed foods, so I guess that is their option for changing it. We actually have a required class we attend, with a slide slow, and we get copies if the slides, goes from hospital Street entrance to procedures, through the 4 food stages post operation. All have a required meeting with surgeon 2 weeks after discharge, when the liquid diet ends.

The spaghetti thing sounds good. I will do that.

I might start the pureed 2 days earlier. I am easily getting my Water and Protein right now. I do fill up quicker than before when drinking some amount of water.

It's funny, but my favorite pureed item was taking a Hormel "Compleats" chicken breast, gravy and mashed potatoes meal and pureeing it in the blender. I felt like I was eating a Thanksgiving dinner even though it was one item, with one color, and one consistency. (I hate puree!) But it was pretty awesome. LOL. It's 10oz with 210 calories, 18 grams of Protein, 4.5 grams fat, and 26 grams of carbs, and 0 sugar.

Now that sounds like pure comfort food. LOL.

What Protein Powder do you use?

The “unflavored “ one I tried is not unflavored. Afraid to add.

I use Isopure unflavored powder. “Unflavored” doesn’t really mean “no flavor,” it means “no ADDED flavor” (like fruit or chocolate). The Isopure is undetectable when puréed in foods or mixed with other Protein Shakes for a boost, but I don’t like it in Water or crystal light because it does have a protein-y taste.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
