My surgery isn't until Monday but, I did lose 80 pounds rapidly back in the mid 90s which caused me to have my gallbladder out.

I don’t have any problems right now, but

my surgeon said approximately half of sleeved patients will need their gallbladder out post op at some point. Yikes!

I haven’t had the WLS yet but I had mine out in December. My surgeon removes all gallbladder that have even a small stone in them, because he knows they will eventually come out. He wasn’t the one that took mine out, but he would have otherwise. On another note, the gallbladder attacks were a new kind of pain that I wouldn’t wish on anyone. I went through three rounds before I finally gave in and went to see my doctor. Goodness, I should have went much sooner, they were debilitating.

I did. There were some random posts that were helpful, but I wanted people to comment here all in one spot - kinda like a poll. "Yes, I had my gallbladder out x years after the sleeve" or "no, I'm x years post sleeve and my gallbladder is fine". Saw nothing like this in my searches. Thanks though.

I had Roux N Y gastric bypass 8 yrs ago. Dr. wanted to take gb at the same time but he had too many adhesions to clean up. (3 C-sections caused those) so about 3-4 yrs later started having pain in the area of the gb, so we opted to remove it. Never asked if there were stones in it, but pain was gone

glamgirl, it sounds like that's the best way to go! I had the hiatal hernia repair with my sleeve, but now I'm worried about my gallbladder down the road. Good luck to you on Monday. You are going to do great. Knock all this outta the park!!

I’m 1.5 years out only 25 years old and I had an attack about a month ago. Never had any previous symptoms and it was very severe I actually had gange green and it had to be removed immediately. The surgeon said he had never seen one in that condition for someone under 50. He also of course mentioned that with wls gallbladder disease is common. Scariest thing I’ve ever been through medically it was so painful

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
