i'm cheating.....already

Nil erosion, 0.002% slippage.

Slips are typically the patient's fault. Either your surgeon hasn't done many bands or s/he is unaware of patient results. Erosion, global stats are 1.3%.

I'm done with this thread. Patients that don't follow post op instructions... it makes something in my head pop.

Eat what you want, slip when you will. It is completely your choice to justify what you will and eat what you want. We are talking six freak'en weeks. There is more ahead, if you can't do this... we have a problem.

The Midband is fairly new in the UK (widely used in France) but early indications are that it is the safest and has least complications, so I was told. My surgeon has done 800 procedures himself but his stats are for the team I think.

Wasa your advice is sound but I don't want to scare her because she needs to move on now.

Personal experience only... men have more self control than women. They follow the diet, women do not. Women will NOT faint with labor pains, men would die. Go figure.

Stick to your doc's diet, not the justification of others. Your band depends on this.

thanks wasa for qualifying that as your experience because here is the opposite I follow the doc's diet and hubby is having the hard time. I am three weeks ahead of him so that made things hard to see me move on to the next stage while he had to stay on the one he was on. but we are now on the same stage. solids. I go in for fill # 2 today and he had # 1 last week. And I agree follow your own doc's diet no one elses. your doc knows how his stages work and that is how he is willing to work. don't mess with a good thing.

good luck everyone

im not wasa, but i do low carb as well. i usually try to stay under 20 carbs a day.

typical menu:

b - Atkins shake - (or any low carb high Protein shake - mine is 4 carbs)

l - tuna w/ chipotle mayo and hard boiled egg

s - almonds - 14ish

d - beef / chicken / pork / shrimp / crab / fish .... tablespoon of LC veggies ... i usually do green Beans.

i found i LOVE shrimp. they are super low carb and good calorie wise too. melt a little butter in a pan and saute them. delish! if i have shrimp, instead of hot sauce, i use spicy salsa ... really good.

good luck!

i wont go into the cheating aspect, cause i'd just be repeating Wasa

wasa, I guess mushie is in between full and soft????? I start mushies tommorow. I have done very well on liquids but it seems some people start having trouble once they introduce mushies. Your posts are very to the point, clear and easy to understand. Any words of wisdom on mushies??

i do not intend to justify cheating. i needed exactly what i got from this thread and that was a wake up call. i do not want to continue doing this obviously.

i made the decision to tell my doctor about my cheat so i would be held directly accountable (in real life). i did, i got griped out big time and they told me they are going to put my picture on the bad patients board. they told me that my cheat more than likely did not cause any problems, but that i need to consider myself lucky and understand that it can/will cause a slip if i continue to do so.

they also gave me a formula for Protein and told me that 100 calories needs to equal 10 grams of Protein. that is not that easy, so i went to GNC and got the unflavored whey protein. i added it to my chilli for lunch.

i completely understand the fact about cutting out carbs. i wish that i would not have added the sugar to my diet, but i did and that is over now.

i do not have willpower, that is fairly obvious by my being overweight in the first place. this is hard for me as has been any diet that i have ever attempted. i'm a food addict, i was having withdrawals, and i satisfied a need, which means, i'm going to have to face that decision again, probably tomorrow and i need to be better prepared.

it sucks that i did it, and i feel really really bad, especially after considering wasa's comments about post op diets and the failure rates. it all makes complete sense. that of course makes me worry even more about going on to mushies early. if my damn hunger would have just left me alone last week, i would still be on liquids, but i'm not. (and i was eating protein).

i'm trying to live a new life, with the same old cravings and thoughts in my head. it's hard, i'm sure that a lot of you guys out there have faced this same dilemna, and maybe by looking at my failure you will avoid the same problems. if i had read this post beforehand, i likely would not have eaten the Cookies.

so damn the Cookies, and damn food..i hate it...it is evil, and even though i am banded, the problem is still there. 6 weeks or not, every day is a battle..be it life long..or hour long..

(oh yeah, i have lost 15 pounds since the 18th and my body has begun ketosis...having some side effects..so hopefully, i am still on tract).

Bandster 1007,

I am glad you took Wassa's concerns to the positive. In light of the matter, I want to thank you for being honest on the forum and letting it out your experience. I am just starting the process be it the very beginning where tonight i will be attending the informational seminar. I have been doing my research before I make my decision this is the best method for me. Your experience and the honest wake up that Wassa gave us all yes...i think even myself--because It is showing this can happen to anyone same mentality of a diet needs to go. Maybe you should try group meetings or try taking a walk. I read find something to replace the cravings...

Good Luck....And congrats on the LOSS!!!!

I was also banded on 10/18 and 2 days ago I ate 4 shrimp (not jumbo or even medium, they were really small) That was a big mistake.. I felt like my chest was gonna pop. I'll be sticking to my mushie diet longer than I have to now. I was told I could start eating tuna and eggs soft stuff, but I'm not even interested after my shrimp incident. Good luck on the mushie stage...

i haven't had any problems with any of my mushies. my doctor's office told me specifically that i would probably have problems with shrimp. they said shrimp does not break down very well. the said shrimp, asparagus, popcorn, celery (popcorn is the only one that i hate to give up).

my doctor thinks that popcorn is evil and no one should eat it. he says that it causes diticulitis (sp?) and IBS, etc.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
