New here and to the process

Recommended Posts

Good morning, I have been reading everyone amazing journey and congrats to all and the amazing success.

I just tuned 50 female and i am 5'3" weight 215 BMI 38 pushing 39, I have hypothyroidism ( thats when my weight went out of control), high blood pressure and High cholesterol.

I started my journey last month met with Dr he said I was a good candidate for gastric sleeve using robotic surgery. Dr. has me doing the following, 3 visit to Nutritionist, one psych evaluation, upper gi, blood work, get clearance from Cardiologist and general Dr. I have already had one visit to the nutritionist and she place me on a diet with no sugar or carb.

My insurance is UHC and when my Dr office called they just told the standard no define months on supervised diet so we are going with 3 months and try. I have a deductable so pretty much I am paying all.out of pocket. ( will be disappointed if I go thru all this and not get approved)

I have great support from my husband and sisters. But looking for support that are and have gone thru this process.

Thank you, I will have questions and more question as I start my journey.

Welcome, ask away, I guarantee there will always be someone who has been through it, had it happen or at least done extensive research on any subject. Don't be concerned about your age, many on here much older, I myself am 72, so old enough to be your mother and I'm going through surgery myself. Youngest, maybe 18, we are worldwide and we all went you to have the best experience possible.[emoji14]

Congratulations on taking your first steps towards a healthier and stronger you. We all have questions as we go on this journey. The best thing about this site is that someone has gone through it already or something similar. We all have our own personalities and how we handle this journey.

I have UHC and that have a very high approval rate, so I do not think that it is something to be concerned about, even though we all have been worried.

I can tell you that this will test every bit of you. You will change not only physically but mentally and emotionally. It is a difficult journey but it will be the best and most rewarding once it is done.

Hi. It’s great that you’ve joined us. You have begun your Bariatric Adventure and it will have its highs and lows. Frustration slips in sometimes while working through all that’s expected in order to be approved. But...this is all worthwhile. Joy replaces the low times when you hear your approved and again when you get your surgery date. It feels great!

I applaud you for taking this massive step toward great health. Way to go! [emoji259]

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
