Has anyone else gotten an approval from the insurance company without an actual approval letter?

My insurance company (uhc choice plus) is telling me they’re not going to send me an approval letter (online or by mail) & that I have to get a copy from my doctor.

This is the case. I was approved without a letter in the mail. They send the Approval information to your surgeon. If you want the letter, you can ask your surgeon for a copy. UHC tends to try and cut back on the amount of paperwork that they need to do. I have had 2 surgeries while being insured by them and have never received a single approval letter. It is not something that they concern themselves with. They figure that your surgeon will provide you with all the details if you request that they do. I would not concern myself with not getting an approval letter, as long as your surgeon has it, you are fine.

I didn't get a letter. I only got a phone call from my surgeon's office saying that it is a go.

I did not get a letter. I called my insurance company and was told I was all set. Then I double checked with my surgeon’s office. They had the approval noted.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
