Islandgyrl 6 Posted April 24, 2018 Hello everyone! Reporting back. I’m now 4 days p.o. (sleeved 4/19). Experience was far from the horror I drummed up. Frankly, once I woke up from the surgery, I had no recollection that they were done, and I was in recovery. Sure I was sore and groggy, but that was to be expected. By the time I was released to my room, I spent the next few hours dozing on and off. My first drink was easy going down, but uncomfortable because of gas. I walked and walked until it subsided. Pretty much the routine until I was discharged 2 days later. Now, it’s a learning experience on how big or small of a sip I can take to avoid the sudden onset of gas/heartburn. It’s really all not too bad once you get a handle of what works for you, and what you are able to tolerate. 1 clsumrall reacted to this
ElisabethE 13 Posted April 24, 2018 I am now 5 days out 4/18/18. As stated above it is a learning experience to see how much you’re able to drink at one time without gas and heartburn. Yesterday was a bad day nausea wise and soreness wise. Today doesn’t seem to be as bad in that respect, but I am finding it difficult to get enough Protein and liquids down so far. Nikki31 3 Posted April 24, 2018 My surgery was April 16th. For me, personally, recovery was rough. I couldn't keep next to ANY liquids down and became severely dehydrated. The last couple of days have been a lot better, but was still super shaky, cold, tired. I talked to my nutritionist, she said I really need to get in some carbs and Protein, especially since it has been almost two weeks since I had actual food. My body wasn't dealing well with being in Clear Liquids for as long as I have been. I tried a Protein Shake and after a couple of sips, my body went batshit. I got very hot and sweaty and felt beyond tired. She told me that patients after WLS have to trial and error different things. So for now, Protein Shakes and protein Water were a no go for now. I let her know that I will try very soft baked eggs. Mind you, I have ALWAYS hated eggs, but my roommate had them available and I knew eggs were a good source of protein and not a full solid. I really didn't have much energy to go to the store and find something else. So I seasoned some and added a little bit of low fat cheddar cheese. It was very good. I ate about 6 very small bites and divided the rest for Breakfast, lunch, and dinner tomorrow. I am tolerating it well so far (it's been a couple of hours) and do feel like I have a bit more energy. Tomorrow I will pick up some oatmeal and give that a shot. But like I said, I talked with my nutritionist first. I am not saying this is what y'all should do before you talk to your Dr or nutritionist.Sent from my LG-LS777 using BariatricPal mobile app
ElisabethE 13 Posted April 24, 2018 Thank you for this information. I am finding the only thing that is doesn’t make me nauseous or cause gas pains is about 2 oz of broth. I am on my fifth day out of surgery and I’m finding it quite painful. I will call my nutritionist and registered nurse tomorrow morning and find out what they suggest 1 Nikki31 reacted to this
Islandgyrl 6 Posted April 24, 2018 Oh, Nikki31, I’m sorry you’re going through a tough time. I have to admit, as soon as I got home, I tried a new Protein Drink from Core Power. In one sip, it didn’t sit right. I thought maybe I’m not ready for shakes, but tried again, and the 2nd sip felt like I was gonna die. I can’t even explain the pain. Needless to say, I will never touch a Core Power anything. I got an Ensure in the hospital, and I tried that, and didn’t have a problem with gas or bloating. I’ve since tried Premier and GENEPRO, and have been fine. You might consider unflavored Protein, and you can sprinkle that thing in anything. I even put it in my flavored water for added bonus. Genepro and Unjury have one, and both are available online or GNC. Wishing you well! 1 Nikki31 reacted to this
ElisabethE 13 Posted April 24, 2018 I had surgery on 4/18/18 and everything is causing nausea and heartburn/cramping. I also am running a low grade fever on and off, I am constipated and I have a few red splotchy areas near the incisions. I spoke to the surgeons office they suggested I come in. I am on my way to the emergency room now
mjcclkwd 27 Posted April 24, 2018 Just downloaded this app today. My surgery date was 4/18. First 4 days were rough but starting to feel better. I was anxious due to the weight gain in the hospital but it has all come off now. Thank god! 1 clsumrall reacted to this

Miss_Tee 56 Posted April 24, 2018 20 minutes ago, Felice said: I’m 9 days post op still have pain when I drink What kind of pain? I know if I wasnt sitting up when I drink it was almost like I could feel the liquids traveling down to my stomach...super weird feeling. Then there would be moments when I drank it felt like heartburn. The pain would leave immediately at the liquid settled.
NYCRN 4 Posted April 24, 2018 It’s almost like I feel the liquid hit my stomach and then being stretched. It hurts for a few seconds and then leaves. No heartburn feeling 1 Nikki31 reacted to this
Miss_Tee 56 Posted April 24, 2018 I'm 3 week post op and it use to happen to me a lot. Everything seems so amplified after surgery. I don't think your stomach is strecthing. It's still swollen and making adjustments But if you have reservation call your doctor. 3 Relle2190, NYCRN and clsumrall reacted to this
