Any April surgery buddies

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone... I’m scheduled for April 26th. I have been on liquid for 5 days. I’m loving watching the scale drop down but missing the chewing! Going to zoo tomorrow with the family... will be a true test of this liquid diet.

You may need extra Protein and Water if you’re going to be walking around a lot. I went to Disneyland while on pre-op. I walked over 18,000 steps and was getting dizzy. I had to have more food since I only had 3 Protein Shakes I did a green salad with chicken with no dressing. I told my nutritionist afterwards and she said not to worry just go back on liquids again. Good luck.

I'm having some serious issues with Protein Shakes and powders. At first I thought it was just the taste until they started to make me nauseous and irritate my pouch. I do not want to vomit. I'm allowed pureed foods, no solids. I have no idea how I'm gonna compensate for my Protein. Is anyone else having this issue...or have any suggestions.

I feel like my diet pre and post op are very strict.

PreOp and up to 7 weeks after my surgeon will not allow me to have any solid food.

Does anybody else have a diet this strict?

· 2 weeks preop diet: Protein Shakes and Clear Liquids only

· 2 weeks post op diet: Protein shakes and clear liquids only

· 3 & 4 weeks postop: I can add in creamy liquids

· 5 & 6 weeks postop: I can add in pureed foods

· 7+ weeks: I can slowly integrate solid foods.

My surgery is Monday April 2nd. Did my pre-op this week, spoke to the nurse and anesthesiologist, that was mildly unpleasant. I didn’t realize I would have a tube down my throat and placed on a breathing machine, or a catheter and to make it better, the nurse told me once I’m in the OR both arms will be strapped down then I’ll be put out and then she tells me I will be prepped my gown will be removed and they will scrub from under my breasts to my knees. When I asked why my knees are be scrubbed in I was told that’s standard practice. Ugh, so just thought of me laying there naked and being scrubbed down by multiple people gives me anxiety. Then she also tells me there are 6 people total in the room. Makes me feel sick just thinking about I too. I’m sure somebody is going to say something rude while I am laying there naked, there are half a dozen people in there. I have to focus and remember I can can do this.

Remember this is what they do. Im sure they aren't going to be rude to you. You won't notice the tube because they do that after sedation. My surgery doesn't require a catheter, but that too will be ok. Another one they will probably do after sedation. The cleaning is to prevent infection. I'm claustrophobic and hate having my arms strapped down, but it's only for a minute and then you are asleep. You've got this!

I'm going to think of it as being strapped into a jet, no a rocket ship, and being prepared for launch. Yes they fasten your arms but its not tight like they were putting you in res traits for punishment,or protection for themselves. I had to deal with, them when in early days Long Term Care wasn't as restraint free as they are now. Funny I remember one of my surgeries they didn't strap me down, they sandbagged my arms on either side. Don't remember why. My surgeries even the one where they had to surgically stablize my fractured upper arm, not a fun injury in the least, I was treated very gently and in a calm manner. So much,i,do not fear having another. One thing I do recall from almost every time, that darn operating room. is always cold! Joked with my orthopaedic surgeon before knee replacement #1 "Are we trying to freeze all the germs and bacteria into immobility?", last thing I told him cause we have a friendly relationship " I'd better have a warm blanket on me when I wake up!" when I did in recovery I did and a Post a Note stuck to it that said " courtesy of your doctor". I'm lying there giggling, bet the nurses thought I'd been given too much Happy juice. 😛😷😛

I was told the reason why they strap your arms is because when you wake up and possibly still have the tube, they don't want you to try to remove it. The nurse has already informed me of this, so it won't shock me.

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
