Hiatal hernias are a little tricky once you've had the DS. It might be worth your while to call/Skype with Dr. Keshishian in CA. He's done many successful ones.

So i just had my hernia repaired still healing from it. My dr was able to do it laproscopicly. I still worry though if it came back once it will come back again . I did not go through the gas pains the first time since i was cut open for the ds. I have to say this feels more painful this time around. Feelings are funny i burp and it hurts feels like an elephant is sitting on my chest till the air passes very painful. I walk alot that helps but wow!

There was a lady on I think the gastric sleeve forum who's also had to have multiple hiatal hernia repairs, her doctor kinda shrugged his shoulders and told her she must be prone to them. Not sure that would make me feel any better![emoji13]

I think what is freaking me out is that when i first had the surgery and hernia fix i knew what to expect. As time went by i noticed i could eat alot more and it felt off to me so i started asking folks around my time frame with my type of surgery how much they were able to eat and a couple were similar but most ate alot less. I now believe due to my hernia i was able to eat more. Now that its fixed it feels like im starting over which is kind of a blessing to help me lose the rest of my weight. The dr. Did say there would be some restrictiction he also said it would not last long. What freaks me out is they only had me on liwuid for a few days now soft foods until i could tolerate reg foods again. However the amount i can eat is like 2 oz like it was when i first started which is okay as long as i knew that this is normal and things will get better. My mind is just racing i will see my dr. On wed for follow up i am just one of those patients that if its rare and negative it usually happens to me.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
