lillysmom 0 Posted October 30, 2007 I am waiting on approval from the insurance company and I am very nervous about th pre-op and post op diet. I feel like I won't be able to follow it completely. The pre-op won't be that bad, considering it is only about a month, but post-op is my main concern. There are some things I just don't want to give up. Do you have to completely modify your diet or are you able to eat some of your favorite foods on occasions? I catch myself thinking at times, I really want this and I can do it, I will make it work, and on other occasions, I dont think I will ever be able to follow the diet. Did anyone have these feelings? And do you allow yourself to enjoy some of your favorite foods on occasions? The foods I am gonna miss are sushi, beer and coffee....and I don't use them all on regular occasions right now besides coffee...LOL. Please tell me if how I am feeling is normal or if I am crazy for feeling like I will miss food, I'm very confused right now:confused:
Mrs SmartyPants 0 Posted October 30, 2007 OH girl .. I know EXACTLY how you feel. I'm set to be banded on Nov 19 and after more than 6months "waiting" - I thought I would have been past the whole "what about not being able to EVER eat this or that again" thing ... I think you EVENTUALLY get back to eating 'anything' (some folks have trouble with certain foods - and in that case, you won't WANT the food, anyway after you've had trouble with it) I wake up thinking about my next meal - and even when I'm eating I'm thinking about what my next meal will be - I am WITH you on the whole 'loving food' and "missing food" thing ... sweethot143 2 Posted October 30, 2007 I eat sushi. I'm banded. However, I don't drink beer or drink coffee, but that's personal choice not banded life. Why can't you ahve coffee?
lillysmom 0 Posted October 30, 2007 Thank you for responding, I am glad I'm not the only that feels like I will miss food...LOL. I do the same thing, always thinking about my next meal, even when I'm eating my meal for right then!!! Good luck on your surgery, you will have to let me know how it goes, keep me updated so I can know what to expect:)

meggie02162 0 Posted October 30, 2007 lillysmom, I understand how you feel, I was anxious too, and I never thought I could stick to a liquid diet for 2 weeks pre op (this is what my doc requires) and more liquids 2 weeks post op!!! Somehow someway I have been given the grace to stick to it, because believe you me, I was thinking of the horrible feeling I was going to have after I cheated. However I have not cheated once on the diet and it has proved to be worth it. I have lost 20.5 pounds so far and I'm a week out of surgery. (that includes the 2 weeks before on liquids also) Most of the people I have met that exercise regularly and follow the doc's orders to a T don't have problems with many if any foods once they get far enough into the solids stage. Once you have the surgery, your whole feeling on food will change, there are times my head tells me I miss eating 2-3 cups of food and feeling that overstuffed, gonna puke feeling, but the truth is, I really don't, and those feelings and urges only last a few seconds at most, it's our minds that entertain it..Good Luck, and God Bless!! MissSac 0 Posted October 30, 2007 Oh my gosh am I with ya on that! I start my pre-op diet in two weeks and am going for surgery on 12/17. I think places like this will help and my shrink (that is part of the plan here is psychology too) is to find something else to do when you eat... read a book, take a walk, play with the dog... etc. Me.... I think it will be stitching and of course my cute dog!

juliegeraci 7 Posted October 30, 2007 I can eat sushi fine but not that much of it. I have an occassional beer. I have coffee every day without an issue. Check with your surgeon. Good luck.
kacee 3 Posted October 30, 2007 The really stringent "dieting" is the first 30 days after surgery. You HAVE to follow your doctor's orders, because it is necessary for the band to be able to nestle into the stomach correctly. You cheat, you run a big risk of screwing up what was just done. Unless you just have money to flush down the toilet, I wouldn't do that. After 30 days when you are on solids...you can eat whatever your body will tolerate. Funny you should mention sushi because I had that for lunch today (two pieces, actually). You need to steer clear of the beer (carbonation) for a while after banding and be careful when you do attempt it. Carbonation can be very uncomfortable.
