Pre-Diabetics experiences with liquid diet

Recommended Posts

I start my liquid diet next month, and I am curious to know how this went with those who are pre-diabetic? I did a test run for myself this week and I was weak, off-balanced, and my vision was a little blurred. I'm not sure if this is because I'm pre-diabetic or if my body just went into shock! LOL! These are all things I will share with my surgeon before starting the liquid diet.

I felt rough on my liquid diet. I was pre-diabetic at the start of my journey. But by the time I did my pre-surg diet...my sugar was normal.

I felt like my brain didn't work well. Difficult to concentrate. Tired. Grouchy as all hell. Felt like my head was full of cotton.

It was the worst part of the entire experience for me.

liquid diet sucks no matter how you slice it. I didn't have to carb detox since I already live a pretty low carb life, but still sucked huge ones. My sugars went into the 80s for the first time in many years!

I don't think your body went into shock but you were experiencing a blood sugar low. Lows are very unpleasant.

When I started my liquid diet I was fully diabetic. The first days of the whole affair were definitely not easy. I had a few lows; less than 70. It got a little bit better when the endocrinologist had me stop insulin and Victoza. I hated every minute of the pre-op diet. The post-op 2 week full liquid diet has been so much easier because I am not only not hungry, but I've been taken off of Metformin so I feel *much better*. I have 8 days left on the 2 week post-op liquids and then can start pureed. Now, post-surgery, I am effectively in surgical remission. I still need to check my blood sugar a few times a day but the highest the numbers ever got was 133 last Monday. Mostly I am normal.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
