Ready to crunch... but WHAT?

Recommended Posts

I progress to a "regular" diet on Thursday, and I'm eager to be able to start eating crunchy things again (and fibrous, though I know I'll probably have try those gradually - I miss broccoli)! The thing is, I don't know WHAT crunchy things I want to eat. Obviously chips are a no-go (though I do have a bag of Quest Protein chips to try). Baby carrots will probably be on the list, but I don't know what else!

(I see my surgeon on Thursday afternoon, so I will find out then if I have any specific restrictions or things I need to wait to try -- I'm expecting salad to be one, though I reallllllly have been wanting a good spinach salad lately.)

Even when you finally get back to regular food (and it is a wonderful thing!), you will mostly want to start with soft foods--things like chicken salad or hash or applesauce. I suppose as long as you chew it well enough until it's really soft, even the chips and so on would be fine, though. As always, check with your doctor and nutritionist. Enjoy the food!

I've already passed the puree stage (read: sick of applesauce), and I'll be finishing the soft stage tomorrow and advancing to regular diet on Thursday. I'm already eating poultry, cheese, soft veggies/fruit, etc.

Sorry: I misinterpreted. Well . . . nuts! that's the first crunchy thing I can think of, given that I just finished some walnuts. salad is good. Probably any of the non-starchy vegetables would be fine. If you're not doing low-fat, get some Pork rinds? If you are not doing low-carb/no carb, some whole-grain bread for toast? I eat rice cakes for snacks--there are a ton of flavors available now (had some Tomato basil recently) and you can put Peanut Butter or cheese on them for the Protein . . .

I started with raw veggies like carrots, skinned cucumbers, broccoli, ect. I would stay away from uncooked celery for now. But almonds might be a good thing to try. I am not a nut person, but I could see that being satisfying . I also ate skinned apple slices and that was GREAT. I loved feeling like I was chewing something. But for me, I have to skin everything. Otherwise the skin ends up in a wad left over after I've chewed everything else to liquid. I can no longer eat grapes for this reason. As far as crunch goes, I thought I'd want something more but turns out I couldn't find much that was healthy.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
