pati-o 6 Posted January 15, 2005 SOrry for the disgusting question, but I was banded two days ago by Dr. Kuri and I feel like I need to have a HUGE burp but can't get it out. Any suggestions on how to relieve this or on what is causing this? My stomach growls constantly so I've been sipping Clear Liquids all day and night, but these gas bubbles are driving me crazY! thanks , Pati

claraluz 2 Posted January 15, 2005 I have the same problem and I do have huge burps! But sometimes they don't come easily at first. I find that walking around helps. Also, once the first burp comes out, I can usually burp more easily to let the rest of the gas out. It's a problem. Nancy
lapbander081004 7 Posted January 15, 2005 Pati, Being able to give a good burp was a pre-exsisting condition I had and keep after surgery. But like you and many others right after surgery it was hard to get it to roll even thought you felt you'd blow up if you didn't. If I got up and walked around It would work lose and I could expell the gas without trouble. I'm just over 5 months out and I have no trouble with gas. Actually If I don't burp it find the path of least resistance and generaly comes out the other end. So I try not to hold it in. I think you will find with time your system will settle down and this won't be a pain any more. but the gas isn't going away. lol
pati-o 6 Posted January 15, 2005 Oh Boy! LOL So now I discover that this gas is going to be with me for life! My poor hubby, I won't tell him the bad news. I have found as the day goes on today that the warm liquids feel better then the cold stuff with ice. And the gas x seems to help a bit. I just never expected to be this uncomfortable, but I know it will pass. thanks! Pati
paula 4 Posted January 15, 2005 My stomach growls constantly so I've been sipping clear liquids all day and night, but these gas bubbles are driving me crazY!thanks ,Pati A suggestion..... Have you tried a shake yet? I HATE to recommed a McDonalds shake due to the calories, but its a quick fix, and it may settle your tummy. But for the long haul, you may want to try the high protien shakes. I remember this same feeling being first banded, and it seemed better after I got something with substance (other then liquids) in there.
claraluz 2 Posted January 15, 2005 I drink a protein/soy milk/ fruit shake in the morning and it causes just as much burping problems as anything else. I once even actually PBd air! That's all that came up! But the preceding symptoms were just like a PB. Nancy
La_madam 20 Posted January 16, 2005 The reason you can not burp is from the swelling and the gas trapped in your diaphram, as the swelling goes down the burps will come out. Mine took 3 weeks to finally get some relife! I had the same problem and was told this exact same thing by my Dr.
claraluz 2 Posted January 16, 2005 I'm not sure it's all due to swelling. I'm 16 months out from surgery and haven't had a fill in many months. I think there is something about the band itself that causes some people like me to trap gas in their stomachs. The one-way valve theory makes sense to me.
