Low cals post op

Recommended Posts

I'm wondering how many calories everyone was eating in the weeks after surgery?

I'm only eating 300 cals a day which seems so crazy! I'm only a few days post op so I think I'm being crazy but I'm curious what is normal.

It should be said I'm not hungry at all and I mean at all!!!

I think I am eating somewhere's between 500-575 calories a day. I know it's crazy. By all rights I should be ravenous but I have no hunger, head or otherwise. That much said, I am growing sick of liquids only. I am looking forward to finally being able to have something pureed.

400-500 cals at 2-4 weeks so far. I don't really go over 500 cals including Protein Drinks and Vitamins. (Not intentionally keeping them low--it just happens). I get 60g Protein daily.

In weeks:

Week 1 - 150/day

Week 2 - 200/day

Week 3 - 300/day

Week 4 - 400/day

Week 5 to 4 months - 500 - 600/day

5 months to 7 months - 600 - 1000/day (Around this time, I took up lifting and found myself being hungry more and needing more meals) - Slowly increased the calorie count each week.

7 months til Now - 900 - 1050/day

I'm usually around 300-400 calories. I love it and am taking advantage of not being hungry, and not forcing myself to eat & take in more calories than my body is telling me to.

As usual, I'm the outlier. LOL

My group pushed us to get 1000-1200 calories per day. I accomplished this in week 3. I will say that most people in my group weren't hitting 1000 until week 4 or 5...but the nutritionist started asking you to try at week 3 and I didn't have any problem.

If you're not hungry...don't eat. Get your Protein in, and be thankful for your lack of appetite. (I was starving)

I’m 7 months out and only eat 300 to 400 calories day. If I get in my Protein, there is no room for anything else

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
