Hospital + children

Recommended Posts

We don’t have a sitter.. Will my 2 year old allowed to be there with my husband and I right before the surgery and after? I am staying over night in the hospital while they stay over night in a hotel so I’m not asking about that; just about the time gaps so I’m not completely alone the entire time.

To add:
Or would you recommend my husband just dropping me off and picking me up in when I’m discharged? Will I be out of it and in too much pain anyways to even want my hub and child there?

It's best to phone the specific hospital and see what their policy is about little visitors. My hospital was surprisingly accommodating of families. They even had a family waiting room on the surgery floor with stuff for kids. But not every hospital is like this. One thing that is wonderful now...is that most places can give the spouse a pager so they can keep the little ones on the move and not bothering anyone.

After you're settled in your room, hubby and kiddo can almost certainly visit. They can help get you checked in, too, but access right before surgery might be more limited because of the little one.

Call ahead and see what they say.

I don’t see why not?

Although... I was out of it that first day and slept . Went home after two nights.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
