Eating crispy bread at day 7

Recommended Posts

I had my bypass 7 days ago. I couldn’t help myself I ate some crispy bread with my soft white cheese...

I’m worried about having a leakage. Does anyone know what causes them and if what I’m doing is ok or I’m hurting myself?

Did your surgeon/nutritionist give you a plan to follow?

I would stick with written instructions for safety's sake.

My plan has liquid for a total of 2 weeks after surgery. There is a reason for this. You can do serious harm to your body, no matter how much you chew that bread. My recommendation is talk to your surgeon, NUT, and get into a therapist. Now is the time that fear alone should be discouraging you from making these choices. You could get serious complications and you are still eating bread. What happens at 6 weeks when you can easily eat bread? Get on board with a plan and get help as to why you are eating food like this.

Hear, hear to that.

I have a one-page overview and a folder of support documents/reading.

The answers to 99% of post gastric sleeve are there.

Use yours, @mabubbles

And you didn't feel nauseous, puke, or even get some kind of dumping syndrome? That's kind of amazing. I doubt very much that you caused a leak or any kind of problems. That much said please follow your program. You didn't come all of this way simply to go back to old habits that caused you to become heavy in the first place.

I would follow the plan they gave you. We are all human slip up but make sure that you chewed that bread until it was mush and soft. Also, do not make it a habit. The point is to teach you self-discipline. It won't be easy but try sticking to the program.

First and Foremost, don't beat yourself up or worry about what ifs. Focus on sticking to the diet they gave you to follow. As hard as it is, it's for a reason.

Now, post-op diets are not "1 size fits all", for my Band to RNY revision I will only be on liquids for 1 day post op, purees start day 2 post op and go for a month, VSG's are on liquids much longer. Just do your best to identify why you strayed away from your diet plan and see what you can do to resolve that. Odds are you didn't do any damage, but that risk is there, so focus on finding the things you can eat and try your hardest to stick to your post-op diet.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
