Extra incisions instead of 5 I have 9

Recommended Posts

Wondering, I know I was a challenge for my surgeon he did a gastric bypass, Heller myotomy fundoplication. He said it was hard to get in because it was very little space to move around because of my spine fusion, things inside where not in it's place. So I wonder if he had to find a different ways to get in.

That's odd, I had the same thing, only 7! I didn't know I was only supposed to have five until I read it on here. I forgot to ask my doctor about it when I went back for a post-op.

I have 7 also, with virtually no bruising. Amazing.

You know Apple, Peg and Acts 238 girl, my journey path to surgery has been so bumpy and convoluted, I don't care at this point how many or how few slits I have all that much. As long as I don't whistle the piccolo solo from the Stars and Stripes Forever whenever I breath in and out, I will be ONE HAPPY CAMPER. Bruising, well it can not be worse than I had with my Tomkitten, he would not stay "engaged" in my pelvis. So nurse got up on my bed, worked him down manually from outside so OB doctor could screw electodes for, monitoring into his scalp. I had handprint bruises all over my lower belly for weeks. I wonder looking back, if I had been "normal" weight would they have just taken me to the OR and sectioned me instead of these fun and games? Ah I will never know. But give me up to a dozen portholes? Just bring them on, I'll just have extra dimples when they heal!

The base amount that a surgeon would need is 5. However, some patients require more as your surgeon said, "There is not enough room after the initial incisions". He would have needed to add more incisions to complete the surgery successfully and that is the most important thing.

I have 5 and hell, I would take 10 more incisions without a problem after this tool has helped me soo much.

Comparesd to stretch marks from 4 babies, it's nothing! My husband said, " Babe, you look like you ran through a briar patch! Lol! No biggie, this stomach will NEVER see a bikini anyway!

No but it has beautiful battle ribbons from each and every one of your beautiful babes. There are women with smooth tummies that wish they could be mommies. Wear your battle ribbons with pride --for they are the signs of a war you won! I joke my belly looks like the map to Indianapolis with all the county roads marked but I would not trade it for any other.

More incisions is often because of adhesions (scar tissue) from trauma or previous surgery, and it allows them to get around those areas by going in different areas instead.

However in your case a hellers myotmy during a bypass is rare (I've never seen one done at the same time as a bypass surgery only seperately) so it's entirely possible that some trocar sites were because it's in a different area than the bypass and you couldn't use all of the same Trocar sites.

Likely it's a combination of the two

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
