drinking with food - cereal loophole??

Recommended Posts

Hi friends

So i got home late and was not in the mood for cooking so I grabbed one of my husbands Cereal containers. figured the raisen bran crunch w/ the skim milk would work for dinner.

here i am eating my Cereal and reading posts, when i feel like i am having more cereal than i normaly eat of real food. is the milk like drinking with food? i normally dont finish a 2.8 ounce container of tuna but the same ounces of cereal and milk which i didnt measure...

hmmm.....

That is a good question. In theory I guess it would be a no no, because the reason you cant drink with meals is cause it pushes food faster thru the band making you able to eat more and feel hungry faster. So in essence the cereal is not hanging around in your small pouch, just flowing thru to your larger pouch. But, I know alot of people on here eat cereal for b'fast. I just recently read that Kashi has made a high protien cereal that people on here are eating.

I eat cereal occasionally, and I put the smallest amount of Skim Milk to just moisten the cereal. I don't have liquid remaining when I finish the cereal. Cheerios keep me full a lot longer than yogurt does, so I'm not sure if it's the content or the fact it 'drains out' slower.

Yes, I find cereal quite difficult to eat (very much a go slow food) and it fills me up incredibly. Its actually a great thing for me to eat - I have it most days for Breakfast becuase it sticks with me till lunch and keeps me full.

I do not at all find that I eat too much of it or it drains through but I've always found that liquids makign food go through faster thing to be completely untrue for me.

I have no problem at all eating cereal with skim milk. I can't eat it in the morning however but I usually have it for dinner 2 - 3 times a week. For some reason, the food/liquid combination with cereal doesn't bother me. I love the multigrain cheerios. Yum!

If I drink when I eat, it's almost an instant PB.. but the milk in cereal doesn't have that effect on me.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
