I know OHIP doesn't cover the cost, but I have group health insurance through my work (manulife financial) and I'm wondering if anyone has had any success in having their group health insurance cover the costs? Michee 2 Posted October 30, 2007 I too have manulife, and I asked this question at the clinic where I was banded, I was told that it has NEVER been covered by a private insurance in Ontario. Mercedes55 0 Posted February 3, 2009 A couple of people have told me that OHIP covers it but that it has to be backed by a doctor, is this true???? I try googleing OHIP coverage for weight loss in Ontario, and it does say that Gastric Bypass or the LapBand are covered if you are suffering from illnesses, or if you have a BMI of 27 or higher.
