Lap Band Removal Today @ 3 - I’m sooo scared!

Recommended Posts

After only 3 years today I will be departing from my lap Band. It’s certainly been an adventure however not being able to tolerate Water, throwing up, pain, it’s critical for it to be removed. I’m so scared as I’m 3 yrs older now at 62 however 50 lbs lighter.

Please share any pearls of wisdom as I’m shaking while writing this and cld use support!

Thank you so much for reading.

I don't have pearls of wisdom other than it sounds like you are making the right choice for the surgery. Good luck and let us know how it goes.

Don't be scared, you are in good hands. If they weren't trustworthy you wouldn't have trusted them this far. You are going to get that scary little so- and -so out, convert to something better and long lasting. If your innards have to be rearranged -so be it. You will only benefit in the end, there will be a little pain with your gain, well that's how life happens. In my own family we phrase it as "that's how the mop flops", means the same thing. Relax -many other people have gone through this, they came out healthy and happy and you will too. Smile and Relax now---good things are ahead for you! p.s. I am 72, so it's not some wet behind the ears upstart dishing out advice![emoji28][emoji28][emoji28]

Are you revising to the bypass? Or just a band removal?

Removing my band and revising to SIPS was the best thing ever. I was so grateful to have that torture device removed. I too had trouble with Water, it would get stuck and make me pb/slime over and over again.

I don’t miss it.

Are you revising or just removing?

Please let us know how you are doing. I am hoping to have my band removed in a few weeks. Then over the summer I will be having the sleeve. I will not miss my port discomfort. I am looking forward to having this band removed! I was against it at first and now I want it out like TODAY!! I just had my endoscopy on Tuesday and everything came back good so now its just getting a surgery date. Did you have to do any prep before your band removal?? I hope you are recovering good. I know you may still be in the hospital thats the only thing I'm not looking forward too :(

I often wonder if I should consider removal. I had my band placed in Oct 2010. Last April I had an issue and had all the Fluid removed. Apparently I had learned nothing about food consumption and that resulted in about a 50 lb weight gain. Almost a year later, I have some restriction but the weight is barely falling off. I am afraid that if I got a revision, I would just gain more weight again.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
