Post-op with surgeon Houston Tx

Recommended Posts

So I’m here at the post op appointment. A little anxious. I just read all of the risk in surgery and kind of freaking out a bit... but still going through it. My surgery got moved 3/19 instead of 3/26. My liquid diet will only be one week instead of two.... I’m just thinking... will I be okay? Will this journey be successful? Did anybody go through this?

Grats you got real lucky. look at it instead as 1 less week you will stress over your surgery and 1 week sooner you will be on your way to a new life.

dont worry about the lost week on the liquid diet that varies hugely from doctor to doctor.

good luck and come back and update everyone on your progress

And no risk on those papers is as high as the risk of staying obese

I have nothing to add, but wanted to say that I'm in Houston too and I wish you all the best!!

If it is any consolation, I have a friend that was sleeved and her surgeon didn't require her to do a pre-op liquid diet at all. Her procedure went just fine. :)

Good luck!

I had no pre-op liquid diet. It was all solids and it was just a low calorie meal plan. Good luck [emoji16]

My surgeon was in Houston too. I had the bypass. Trust me, I felt all the emotions you are feeling. I even went so far as to contact my surgeon's nurse and cancel the surgery, then called back. She told me this was very normal, the nervousness of it and most of all I was worried about failing since I failed at every diet I ever did, plus I had a lapband and had it removed. But you will get through it and will do fine. Good luck.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
