I had my surgery yesterday. I woke up after surgery so nauseous and in pain. I try heaved once. My throat is also bloody and swollen. My Dr. this morning told me when I woke up from surgery I was trying to rip the tube out of my mouth/throat, so I probably hurt myself. I'm doing better today. Painful on the left side of my abdomen, but I'm able to get up and walk. It took hours for my bladder to wake up yesterday. I couldn't pee, but am doing fine now.

So sorry to hear of the throat issue. Ice chips can help. Mine wasn’t as sore but ice chips were my very best friend the entire hospital stay.

I hope the remainder of your recovery is easier. How is your nausea now!

I had my surgery yesterday as well. Virtually no nausea and was able to walk. I’m back home today and have some pain. I had a hiatal hernia that had to be fixed.

Isn't it crazy? Aside from the pain in one incision, I actually feel better than I did pre-op.

Walk, walk and more walk. I had a sore throat from the tube but it healed in a day or two. First few nights I “slept” sitting up on my couch and otherwise paced the house to get all the gas out. Gas x doesn’t help since it’s within your abdominal sac. Ask for zofran or something comparable for the nausea and don’t be afraid to ask for more pain meds. I took liquid oxycodone on and off for at least a week and supplemented it a bit with leftover hydrocodone during that time and occasionally after I quit the oxy but when I really needed sleep or felt especially sore. I was fine most of the time but others felt like a train wreck. The liquid diet was really rough on my energy level.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
