Surgery date: 3/2/18

Hello everyone, my first day here, been reading, getting to know some of you through your posts, my surgery was 3/2/18, I’ve had minor complications but won’t let that put me down. Life is complicated already, LOL- when I decided to do this my husband wasn’t thrilled, not on board, week before surgery he totally got it and took 2 wks off just to be next to me, I’m so thankful for that! I’ve had a wound infection, leaking, etc

Hi Jackiegordo first of all welcome to the loser bench and thank you for sharing your journey with all of us. I'm glad to hear your husband has come around & is now there to support you mentally. Having a support system will only aid in your success.

I wish you all the best in your healing & success of shedding those unwanted pounds. Cheers to you!!!

Great job! Just setting expectations - you will gain “weight” at the hospital - but it is Water weight and gas!! You’ll have multiple bags of saline IV and the laparoscopic procedure introduces copious amounts of gas (this is where 80% of your pain comes from - I was so relieved when I finally passed gas!)

So this “weight” will quickly disappear - so my advice is don’t get on the scale until 1 week post op.

So excited for you!!

Roxine

Congratulations on your pre liquid diet thus far, kudos to you. I second what Roxine said in her response. I just had my surgery on the 9th & I dare not get on the scale yet bc I know I gained Water weight and have a lot of gas on my stomach due to the surgery.

May you continue to reduce your liver while on the previous liquid diet & have a successful surgery. See you on the loser bench in a week. Cheers!!

Today I got to add mashed potatoes and let me just say - YUMMMM! It’s so nice to have something warm and chewy in my mouth.

Of course I only ate about a teaspoon but it was so good! Completely satisfied me.

Good Morning MGBG !

This morning was the first time I woke up with no pain! I’m 9 days Post-Op, have lost 15 pounds since surgery, can sleep on my side, and am going to drive for the first time today!

I am sticking to my Drs plan meticulously. Only 3 meals per day, drinking plenty of Water (sipping all day), and slowly introducing soft puréed foods (unsweetened apple sauce, loose oatmeal, loose mashed potatoes - YUM!), and increasing my walking every day.

How is everyone doing? Whether you’re pre or post op, if you’re journey begins in March, let’s work together and help each other out!

Thanks
Roxine

I was released by noon on day 3 and recovered the rest of the week at home.

Is 2 nights in the hospital typical for your hospital/doctor? I was thinking that one night was most common. If all goes well for me, I believe I'll be having RNY with the same doctor at same hospital as you.

My Dr said it could be 1-2 nights but that most stayed 2 nights. My blood pressure was pretty low that first night, falling below 100 systolic, so I think out of precaution they keep me the second night.

But I was ok staying 2 nights. The first day was a blur and I used the second day to really focus on Fluid intake and walking. The only thing I didn’t like was the IV is the last thing they remove and I was tired of having that in my arm.

I'm going to be a March Bypasser as well. Surgery set for the 21st. I'm a Band to Bypass revision, so hopefully everything goes well and I can revise in 1 surgery rather than 2, but I won't know that until I wake up from surgery. Fingers crossed.

Welcome Matt!

Were you having issues with lap band or just decided to do GB?

I, too, hope you have an uneventful surgery and relatively easy recovery.

I've had minor issues with the LB for years, things like lettuce and chicken were very tough to eat at the level of restriction that worked, I'd get stuck a few times a month... no major issues like erosion or slippage, just never got much lower than 300.

Thanks!

Yea for you Roxine, I can't wait until I get to the point where I'm no longer sore. Also great job on losing 15 pounds thus far, soon that 15 pounds will be multiplied :)

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Your so close now! It's gonna be great :) Wishing you a speedy recovery and looking forward to seeing how it goes!

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
